"Dick, Randy and families: D.R. was one of the finest men I have ever known! I first met him (and Jim Spencer) in the late 1960's and then worked with him on some real estate investments over the years. He was a Southern gentleman, always true to his word, and of the highest integrity"

To the James family,
It was always a delight to see D.R. and Jean as I was growing up, especially when I was home from the UA. Your dad was such a special friend to my parents, and to me. I hope sweet memories will comfort you as you say goodbye.

Randy and Dick,
I was saddened to hear of your Dad's passing. It is difficult to lose a parent. What a fine and great man he was. I know you must feel blessed to have had him in your lives for as long as you did.

Dick , Randy and families, My name is Mary Ann Molsbee and around the end of 1962 your Dad gave me my first job. He and your Mom were so nice and made my first working experience a joy. I was hired as switchboard operator at the beautiful Holiday Inn. Dorlas Rogers, Jane Bulluck were among the ladies that welcomed me. Gracie Jones was the restaurant hostess. I really enjoyed being part of it. Did get to meet Minnie Pearl as she checked in with her famous hat with the tag on it. That was a real treat.
Through the years I had seen your dad walking down town and so many times wanted to stop him and say something...just didn't...had been so long ago, did not think he would even remember me or how much it meant to me to have that 1.30 an hour job in 1962.
Well a few weeks ago one of my best friends had to have help with her mom and she is at Timberlane. One day while there to see her, there was Mr. James. I just had to tell him how much I appreciated him and hoping somehow he understood. He was a great man . Didn't know just how many things he had accomplished until I read it. I know he will be missed by you and may others. He surely wont be forgotten by me. My prayers are with you. It is hard to give those precious ones up. I have lost both of mine but know where they are and we all will meet again.

Mr. James will be deeply missed. I always enjoyed his warmth, humor, intelligence and kindness. I have fond memories of my grandfather telling me of the funny things "D.R." said when they had coffee together. Seeing Mr. James always brightened my day. I am thinking of his family and wishing you peace and comfort.

The Final Salute
Brothers in Arms, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged Hand Salutes as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This Hand Salute is the last that we shall render to David Randolph (D.R.) James, Jr. our Brother-in-Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for D.R.. And to D.R. it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during WW-II while serving as a combat infantry officer in the U.S. Army. D.R., we commend you for your honorable service. You are a true patriot, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,061 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to D.R.'s family and loved ones.
