Kenneth Ray Darnell

Kenneth Ray Darnell, age 74 of Oil City, LA passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, in the comfort of his home after losing his battle with cancer.

Born on February 1st, 1942, in Shreveport, LA, he was the son of the late James and Bess Darnell and was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy Darnell. In his youth, Kenneth achieved the elite status of Eagle Scout. He graduated from North Caddo High School and served in the Air Force Reserve. Kenneth worked for Texaco Oil Company. for 34 years and upon retiring, continued working in oil production through his own independent oil company, Darnell Oil Company. He was an avid outdoorsman with a fierce passion for hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed many years of coaching softball, leading many of his teams to numerous championships.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Janice Rathbun Darnell, daughter Shannon Oswald and husband Chad, son Brian Darnell, step daughters Shanda Hollihan and husband David, Candace Smith and husband Dustin, grandchildren include Paige Moore, Lindsey and Reagan Oswald, Brooke Speir, Connor Hollihan, Hannah, Dyllan, and Alyvia Smith, brother Jimmy Darnell and sister-in-law Ruth Darnell as well as cousins, nieces and nephews and countless friends, most of which he has known his entire life.

Viewing will be on Friday, August 19th from 6-8 PM at Oil City United Pentecostal Church. Funeral services will be held at Oil City United Pentecostal Church on Saturday, August 20th at 11:00 AM. Funeral service will be officiated by Rev. Kent Rhoads. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Oil City, LA. Pallbearers include C.E. Bourne, Duane Nottingham, Mike Liles, Bobby Emmons, Edmond Brown, and Curtis Durmon.

And aways walked with his Chin up, was vary respected in the oil city and always looked healthier than I was.
