Andrew Stamos Obituary

Andrew Jack "AJ" Stamos

SHREVEPORT, LA - Private graveside services will be held for Andrew Jack "AJ" Stamos, 87, at Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery on Monday, October 3, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Andrew Comeaux officiating. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2016 from 5-7:00 p.m. at Rose-Neath Southside Funeral Home.

Andrew was born on November 20, 1928 in Shreveport to Jack and Kitty Corinne Dodd Stamos and went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 30, 2016. He was a graduate of Fair Park High School and attended Texas A&M. Andrew joined the US Navy and proudly served his country. Shortly after his military service he met and married the love of his life, Peggy Lou Cecil. They spent 60 wonderful years together before Peggy passed away. Andrew was a man of many talents and they stretched from KCS Railroad to Fil-A-Bil, Southern Hills Grocery & Hardware, Peggy Lou's Gifts & Interior Design, MacMos Investments, General Contractor and many more. Andrew was a devoted member of Summer Grove Baptist Church. He touched many lives through the years and he will never be forgotten.

Preceding Andrew in death were his parents, Jack and Kitty Stamos and his wife Peggy Lou Cecil Stamos. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Betty Sue Stamos Clark and his lovely granddaughter, Mary Katherine Clark, along with extended family and friends.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Marvin Crain, Glenn Price, Beryl Young, Marvin Young, Huey Brown and Dr. Russell McInnis.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. James Jackson, Erin Dicharry, PA, Dr. Tommy Mook, Nursing Staff at the North Pavilion at Live Oak, ER Staff at Willis-Knighton North and the Nursing Staff in the Step-Down Unit for all the care, support and love they gave to Andrew.

In lieu of flowers the family suggest that memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Louisiana Dog Rescue, 149 Carroll St., Shreveport, LA 71105.

I dearly loved this great man. He did so much for me over the years by leasing the property to put my business on by the DMV. He was truly a man of his word. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I know I will see you again one day, sweet friend.

Betty Sue,
I do not know you well, but I am a South Brookwood girl, and I wanted to offer my sincerest sympathies and share a story. Mr. Stamos was a staple of the community and I will always remember fondly the after-school snacks I couldn't wait to get to after the 3 o'clock bell. If we all had a nickel for all the Icees we purchased from your dad's store...boy, many a Southern Hills kid would be rich!
One of the favorite stories I have about your dad (and I guess my only story) was I came into the store early one Sunday morning to purchase a newspaper, I was in my early 20s, probably bleary-eyed and with bedhead, and your dad was sitting at the counter, leaning on an elbow reading the paper when I walked up and he said all perky and in his deep voice, "Good morning Glory!" It has always stayed with me mostly because we all respected your father and he was always a very busy man and he specifically said something to me...kind of a brush I feel like I had with the local celebrity!
I would bring all of my children to the store for treats over the years and even when it wasn't Stamoses, it was still Stamoses.
I will always remember the store, and your dad, and many a trip either began or ended with a stop at Stamoses. I know your father was much more than the store, but to us, the store was a big part of our lives and for that I will always love and never forget.
With my deepest sympathies,

I was so sorry to hear of Andy's passing away. How well I remember knowing him and Betty. He was such a fine man and Betty was also a wonderful lady. They both were pillars in the community. He was so well respected by all his friends and neighbors.

Please accept my deepest sympathy in your loss. May God give you peace and comfort in the days ahead without your loved one.

The Final Salute

Brothers in Arms, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged Hand Salutes as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This Hand Salute is the last that we shall render to Andrew Jack Stamos our Brother-in-Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Andrew. And to Andrew it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Korean War while serving in the U.S. Navy. Andrew, we commend you for your honorable service to your community, State and Nation. You are a true patriot and statesman, who served with honor and distinction. You upheld the finest qualities of an American civic leader and patriot warrior: courage, commitment, generosity, sacrifice, love and devotion to family and country. You were a true friend. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 961 military veteran Legionnaires of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion and the 233 veterans of VFW Post 2238 in Shreveport, Louisiana, we extend our sympathies and our condolences to Andrew's family and loved ones.
