LOUIS PETRONI Obituary

Louis T. ' Lou' Petroni
Raised in Staten Island
Louis T. "Lou" Petroni passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, Sept. 27, 2016, at his home in Hermosa Beach, Calif. He was 76 years old.
Born Feb. 26, 1940, to first-generation Italian-American parents Louis and Carmella (Barone) Petroni, Lou was raised in Staten Island, N.Y. He was a three-sport star at Curtis High School and later attended Wagner College of Staten Island on a football scholarship.
To the mild chagrin of the Murray family, Lou met and started dating Judy Murray, an Irish girl, while at Curtis High School. Lou eventually won them over, of course, and in 1959 Lou and Judy were married and moved to Manhattan Beach, Calif., where Judy's parents had moved one year earlier.
After a couple of years working at Ryan Aeronautical, Lou landed a job at TRW in Redondo Beach, Calif. He was hired in 1962 as a production control expediter, and 35 years later retired in 1997 as vice president of new business initiatives. His career at TRW was both challenging and rewarding, as the aerospace industry was growing rapidly. Lou was involved in such historic accomplishments as Apollo 11, Sky Lab, and the Space Shuttle, etc.
While he and Judy were raising their six children, Lou was constantly involved with his children's youth sports leagues and special events at American Martyrs and Bishop Montgomery High School. Later on, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events, attending local pro and college games, traveling, listening to music, and going to the theatre. He relished spending time with family and friends, and especially enjoyed his late-afternoon consultations with cronies at Grunions.
Lou is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy; their six children, Mike (Claudia - deceased), Don (Diane), Rob (Ann), Lou (Kim), Matt (Susan), Tara (Mike Paley); and 15 grandchildren, Vito, Sergio, Tommy, Samantha, Joey, Josh, Annie, Jackson, Camille, Rocco, Matthew, Kendall, Ben, Sam and Theo. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Anne Marisca of Old Bridge, N.J., and Margaret (Greg) Bianco of Tampa Bay, Fla., as well as many other loving relatives.
Funeral Mass is Monday, Oct. 3, at American Martyrs Parish, Manhattan Beach, Calif.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Lou's name to the charity of your choice.

Judy,

Jim and I just heard of Lou's passing from the TRW retirement newspaper. We were so sorry to see his name on the Obituary page.

I knew Lou for many years at TRW. In fact, he was my boss for 6 years (I was his secretary). He was quite a great boss (never a dull moment working with him). I kept him supplied with chewing gum (which he reimbursed me for many times). Later on I went to work in the Proposal Ops Group for 13 years. I would meet him periodically and have lunch. When you guys moved to San Diego I would visit my sister and call him and meet for lunch.

We were invited to Michael's wedding, and also Tara's where we met his sister and parents. In fact, you guys came to our wedding on the Queen Mary in April, 1986.

You set up some wonderful trips for Jim and I when you were working at the travel agency.

I know his extended family will miss him, as will I.

We send our love and thoughts to you and your family, Judy

We would love to hear from you some time, Judy. Our telephone number is 540-872-2811.

My sincere and deep condolences to the Petroni family. I worked with Lou for over 30 years at TRW and he was definitely one of the best I had the privilege of working with. I also played several years of high level softball with Lou....a very good player.
Lou was a great human being who made contributions to many facets of others live. R.I.P. my good friend and colleague.
