Josephine Battista, 84
Known for speaking her mind
Josephine Battista, 84, of Great Kills, passed away on July 4, 2017.
There will be a blessing by Father Jerome at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Casey-McCallum Rice Funeral Home, and a brief service Saturday at 10 a.m. by Father Panful at the funeral home.
Mrs. Battista graduated from Port Richmond High School. She was an excellent baker and cook, and enjoyed crocheting.
"Mom said what was on her mind, whether you liked it or not; she'd tell you she wouldn't care. Those who knew her loved her, attitude and all," said daughter Ann.
Mrs. Battista was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, Angelo, in February 2005.
She is survived by children, James Battista (Louise) and Ann MacIver (Harry); grandchildren, Alaina Signorastri, Brian MacIver, Michelle Hesse, Joseph Battista; great-grandchildren, Marcello and Luigi Signorastri and Connor and Lena Hesse.

Josie may God Bless you as you begin your journey to life. Angelo must have said "what took you so long?" Yes she did say what was on her mind and cared not who did not like it! I want to thank you also for giving me my very dearest friend your daughter Ann. You will be sadly missed, please tell Angelo that Smitty said hello. Dear Josie you will be sadly missed. Yes when you did not like something or someone its true you would let them know it! Begin your journey with your husband Angelo and be whole again, there is no more hurting for you you are finally home.
