SIDNEY — Philip Ferdinand Freytag, 82, 330 E. Pinehurst St., Sidney, Ohio, passed away on Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio at 4:15 p.m. from injuries from falling on the ice in Sidney.
He was born July 26, 1935, in Piqua, Ohio, the son of Ferdinand Ernst and Sylvia Faye (Morris) Freytag and they are deceased.
He was married to Jane Hover on April 20, 1963, and she survives along with a daughter, Gail Penhollow and husband, Erik, of Westland, Michigan; a son, Jeffrey Alexander Freytag and wife, Judi, of Mansfield, Ohio; one sister, Julia Clayton, of Sedgewick, Maine; and four grandchildren.
He was a 1953 graduate of Sidney High School and a 1957 graduate of Yale University and a 1960 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with a Master's Degree in Architecture. He had been an architect at Freytag and Associates in Sidney for many years.
He was a member of the Sidney Noon Kiwanis Club and recently received the 50-year Legion of Honor award by Ohio Kiwanis Governor Bill Flinta. He had been president of the Kiwanis Club in 1976-1977 and had nine years of perfect attendance. He liked to play golf, garden, cook and read.
Cremation services will take place with Salm-McGill and Tangeman Funeral Home in Sidney and a private family gathering will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Sidney Noon Kiwanis Club, P.O. Box 115, Sidney, OH 45365 or the Shelby Oaks Memorial Tree Fund, P.O. Box 4639, Sidney, OH 45365.
