HARRIET KAHNWEILER Obituary

KAHNWEILER, HARRIET B. Harriet Kahnweiler, a 39-year San Diego resident, died in her sleep Friday morning in her SDSU-area home at the age of 95. She suffered from a number of ailments associated with advanced age. Known throughout her life as Peggy, she was born December 6, 1914 in Plymouth, WI, the only child of Sigmund and Sarah Blumenfeld, and grew up in Baraboo, WI above her parent's grocery, the Baraboo Fruit Store. Shortly after graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Sociology, she met and married Gilmore G. Kahnweiler, a manufacturer of boys and men's outerwear in Chicago. They raised their family in Glencoe, IL, moving to Phoenix, AZ when their daughters were in their teens. Peg and Gil Kahnweiler, with her father, Sig, moved to San Diego in 197l to be near their daughter, Susan. and her family. Mrs. Kahnweiler was an active member of the Association for Family Living on Chicago's North Shore and the Sisterhoods of Temple Beth Israel in Phoenix and Congregation Beth Israel in San Diego. Mr. Kahnweiler, a member of the board of directors of both temples, became a building contractor in Phoenix and acting director of the Jewish Community Center in San Diego. Mrs. Kahnweiler was a devotee of nutritionist Adele Davis starting in the '50s and practiced Psycho-Cybernetics, a self-actualization program developed in 1960 by Dr. Maxwell Maltz. She was an avid bridge player, a loyal Democrat and an enthusiastic supporter of theater and arts. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jerome Pollock of San Diego, grandsons Patrick of Indianapolis, IN, and Tony of San Diego and two great grandchildren, Nathan and Lauren. Her daughter Jill Kahnweiler Rush predeceased her. Graveside memorial services will be held at El Camino Memorial Park, 5600 Carroll Canyon Road, Sorrento Valley, on Wednesday, November 3rd, at 11 a.m.. For more information, call 858-453-2121.
