AMY GOREN Obituary

GOREN, AMY FRANCINE Jan. 31, 1952 to Nov.15, 2010 On November 15th, Amy lost her brief battle with cancer. At her side was her husband and cherished friends and family. An angel, adored by husband Aaron De Groot, the daughter of the late Sylvia and Sydney Goren of Chicago, the sister of Mark Goren who preceded her in death. The niece of cherished aunt Jan Paul and cousin of Corky Moch, both of Chicago. Amy was a UCSD graduate and earned her Master's at UCSB. She was a speech and language pathologist for over three decades, mostly with the San Diego Unified School District. Her last assignment before retirement in 2009 was at La Jolla Elementary School. Over the years, Amy gave voice to hundreds if not thousands of children. A patient and loving educator, Amy brought smiles and joy to the children and staff at every school she worked at. A proud liberal, Amy over the years gave her heart to numerous progressive causes. She always stood for the underdog. Children in need was her most heart felt cause. Amy will be remembered by those who knew her as a real friend and a self-made person. She leaves all those who knew her with a vacant spot in their hearts. Angel, I miss you and will always love you. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society, Project Wildlife or the Polinsky Children's Center.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Amy was a grad student when I was an undergrad in Speech & Hearing at UCSB. I admired her brains as we completed our studies there. We then worked together in SDCS, both as SDL Itinerant Teachers and Speech-Language Pathologists. I'm so sorry she didn't have longer to enjoy her retirement, which was well-deserved.

We spent a brief but very special long weekend this past summer in San Diego with Amy and Aaron. It was definitely a "meant-to-be" opportunity to reconnect our families since we live so far away. Our memories of that trip to San Diego are even more precious now that we have lost our Amy. Lots of love to Aaron with the hope that time will help to heal your broken heart.
Your Canadian cousins,
Joanne and Allen
