BEATRICE CRUZ Obituary

CRUZ, BEATRICE REYES DIAZ January 6, 1919 to October 7, 2010 Beatrice Reyes Diaz Cruz was born on January 6, 1919 in San Diego, and passed away on October 7, 2010. She spent her childhood in the Morena area and attended school and church in Old Town. She was the daughter of Pedro and Adeline Diaz, and had ten siblings: Paul, Elmira, Alfonso, Petra, Rose, Peter, Helen, Manuel, Consuelo, and Arthur. She graduated from Point Loma High School in 1938. On August 8, 1943, she married Benito Cruz, and they remained together until his death in 1986. She was preceded in death by her son Benito Cruz Jr. Her other children are Michael Cruz of Chula Vista, Barbara Dauphinee of Billerica, MA, Meredith Grahn of Little Rock, AR, and stepson Ronald Cruz of Santa Maria, CA. Her family grew to include 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. During the forties, Bea was employed as a "Rosie the Riveter" at Convair. She continued working there into the late fifties. In 1963 the family moved from San Diego to a house in Chula Vista, where she remained until her death. In addition to her children, she had many nieces and nephews who loved their "Aunt Bea" very much. Beatrice had a well-deserved reputation as an expert gardener, which was evident from the beautiful line of roses that always led to her front door. She enjoyed spending her spare time doing what she loved most, caring for her many plants. Those who knew Bea will miss her friendly interest in other people and her sense of humor. Viewing will take place Wednesday, October 13, 2010, starting at 4:00 p.m., followed by a Vigil and Rosary at 7 p.m. at Community Mortuary, 855 Broadway, Chula Vista (619-426-2006). Funeral services will be held the following morning at 10 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Church, 1245 4th Avenue, Chula Vista (619-422-2100).
