BRIGITTE FEUCHT Obituary

FEUCHT, BRIGITTE Brigitte Ursula Feucht, a long-time resident of La Jolla, passed away on September 20, 2010 at the age of 76. Brigitte was born in Heidelberg, Germany. She moved to Baltimore in the 1960's to study at Goucher College then worked at John's Hopkins University. In 1970, she moved to San Diego to join the lab of Dr. Milton Saier at UCSD. She fell in love with Southern California and became a US citizen in 1989. Brigitte devoted much of her life to her passion for art through printmaking. She exhibited her art at UCSD and in Balboa Park with a group called "7 Printmakers". Brigitte was also a gifted gardener and a member of the San Diego Bromeliad Society. For the last 15 years, she worked as an in-home caregiver for adults and children with disabilities, touching the lives of many with her calm, comforting nature. Brigitte is survived by a large extended family in Germany and many dear friends in San Diego. She will be missed.

I recall meeting Brigitte when we both did experiments in Dr. Helen Habermann's lab at Gouchers. She tried to teach me to speak a little German, taught me to say phrases like "Today, I'd like to show you our lab." She also shared lunch with me a few times when my experiment ran overtime. Once she gave me hot potato salad with sharp pickles, the first time I had tasted potato salad with flavor! I would love to know how to see some of her art work. I'm so sad to hear the news and my thoughts and love go out to all. Brigitte was more than a friend to my mother, Barbara Davies, and I loved her very much. Brigitte inspired us all in so many ways. She was a wonderful cook, a brilliant artist, a wonderful travel companion, and the dearest friend. So hard to believe. So sorry for your loss.
