CHARLES HIRST Obituary

HIRST, CHARLES R. "DICK" To those whose lives he has touched, Dick will be remembered as a hard working and respected business owner, as well as generous friend and devoted family man. Born April 28, 1930 in Christiana, PA to parents Charles T. and Grace, he graduated from Coatesville High in 1948. He immediately joined the Marine Corps. and served his country admirably in Korea. While stationed at Camp Pendleton, he met the love of his life and would marry Jackie Henninger of Chula Vista, eventually building a home and raising four children in Bonita. He began his career in the moving and storage business in 1953, establishing his own company in the South Bay area, Richard's Van & Storage, Inc. in 1966. He shared responsibilities with his son "Wally" until it's closing in 2009. As an agent for National Van Lines in Chicago, he served on their Board of Directors from 1982-2000, and friendships from that association remain treasured to this day. Active in the Chula Vista community, Dick served as Jr. Chamber of Commerce President and was chosen "Jaycee of the Year" from 1960-1961. He coached in the Sweetwater Valley Little League and was particularly proud of his team "The Bulldogs". He was an avid bowler over the years and enjoyed gardening, sharing the "duties" with his daughter Jill. He and Jackie loved to travel when they could, but were most happy and proud of the time spent at home with family. Dick passed away on October 22nd, and is now together forever with his wife Jackie, daughter Jill and son "Wally". He leaves behind a brother, Robert C. (Jane) Hirst of Ronks, PA, daughters Charla (Bill) Borich and Connie Adams, grandchildren Jaclynn Adams, Lauryn (Cole) Maynard, Richard and Lance Hirst, great-grandson Austin, nieces and nephews. A celebration to honor Dick's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 17th, at Chapel of Roses in Glen Abbey Memorial Park. Sincerest thanks to so many supportive friends over the years and to Yolanda, Maria, Rusty and Dr. Edward Singer.

I regret I leave town early tomorrow otherwise I would attend the celebration of Dick's life. We go back many years to the old and forgotten Chula Vista Jaycees. He and Jackie were always ready to do something with the " old timers "and I always enjoyed seeing one or both at CV Community Hospital events, Republican gatherings or just around Bonita. We send our sincerest condolences to all the family and friends. Sandra and Bud Wilson
