DUANE ELTON "DEWEY" CALKINS

CALKINS, DUANE "DEWEY" ELTON Sept. 23,1930 to Nov. 27, 2010 Duane "Dewey" Elton Calkins, 80, was to Riley and Verna (Martin) Calkins in The Dalles, OR. He was the sixth of nine children. He married Joloise Stolte in 1995. A member of Lemon Grove Lutheran Church, he attended services when able. He enjoyed a good game of golf with other members, close family and friends. A veteran of the Korean War, Duane was active in the La Mesa American Legion, Post 282, where he previously served as Post Commander, House Chairman and avid camper. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign War. Duane is survived by his wife, Joloise; daughter, Sandra Lewis (Andrew); stepchildren Craig, Brad, Denise Stolte and Joloise Ivery (Robert); 13 grandchild- ren and eight great-grand-children; his brothers Virgil Calkins (Nadine) and Delbert Calkins (Linda); sister Charlotte Ward. He was predeceased by his first wife of 39 years, Nancy, and their daughter Leah English. Memorial Services at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21st, at Lemon Grove Lutheran with small reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are given to Lemon Grove Lutheran Church or to the Duane Calkins Memorial Fund through Renal Advantage Inc.
