I remember Gene Bell very well; he was an inspirational teacher and indeed DID remember students long after they left school. He encouraged me to further my education later in life and was very supportive. He will be greatly missed.

To the Bell Family: I have fond memories of Mr. Bell, as he was a fine teacher and one of my favorites at Vallejo High School. He was a teacher that gave you a reason to go to school and gave us the incentive to study. I am sure he remembered most of his students and he made a great impression on us all.

Mr. Bell is one of the very few teachers I remember. He was my government teacher during summer school. I once saw him at a movie or play in San Francisco and went over to say hello. He was less than thrilled to have two students gushing over him with his date. My sincere condolences to the family.

I knew Mr. Bell best at Franklin Jr. High. He was never without a smile and a positive comment for everyone he came into contact with. Gene Bell was an exceptional teacher and an extraordinary human being. I offer condolences to his family for their loss. The world is a bit smaller due to his passing.

I was so saddened to hear of the passing of this wonderful man; I learned so much from him, especially the value of learning, and he was a positive influence on the young people he came into contact with. He was my English instructor at Vallejo Sr High, in 1962, and I have always treasured his kindness in class. My sincere condolences to his family.

Gene Bell was a class act and a wonderful human. As the Director of Personnel he always sent a birthday card, what a nice idea! I remember that in labor negotiations he represented the district well but always treated teachers with respect. He was a great example for all of us.

Mr. Bell taught my class in Emerging Nations under the dome in the old building at VHS. Later, he hired me in my first teaching position for VHS; I am now retiring after 35 years teaching and administering high schools in California. Thank you, Mr. Bell.

I was so sorry to hear about Mr. Bell's passing. I look at his photo and think back to meeting Mr. Bell as a youngster at Vallejo Junior High School more than 45 years ago. He was smart, kind and interested in his students - he engaged our minds and made us feel we were worthy. Thank you Mr. Bell for everything. You will be missed.

Jim Miller, class of '63, enjoyed Mr. Bell as a teacher at Franklin and Vallejo High, where he was leader of the Key Club. All of us enjoyed a wonderful outing at Playland at the Beach in SF.

We all were very shocked and saddened to lose such a close freind and leader as Gene In the Square Dance World. He was truly an inspiration to anyone whom he came in contact with. He would light up a room with his presence. He can never be replaced. We all loved him greatly. He left an empty feeling in our hearts.

I am saddened to hear of Gene's passing. Just last week I came across a lovely, personal, typewritten letter Gene had written to me when I was about to go on maternity leave from Vallejo City Unified School District in 1981. His genuine kindness permeated his work as personnel director and was much appreciated by everyone who worked with him. He will be well-remembered by all who knew him.
Sincerely,
Susan Tough

Mr. Bell is so well remembered by those of us who attended Franklin Junior High School in Vallejo, California, during the early 1960s. We teens gravitated to Mr. Bell like a bee to a flower. He had an engaging personality and a sweet smile. It was a joy to be around him. Interestingly enough, some of us who graduated from Vallejo Senior High in 1964 got together last Friday night, and one of us brought up Mr. Bell, not knowing he had already left us. Our conversation was about how nice he was and such a people person. The world is poorer for having lost him.
