GEORGE GLEAVEY Obituary

GLEAVEY Jr., GEORGE "SKIP" M. George "Skip" M. Gleavey, Jr., 64, of San Diego, CA passed away, on July 14, 2010, after a courageous battle with Lymphoma. Skip was born in Rhode Island, graduated from Bishop Hendricken HS in 1963 and URI in 1970. He served in the U.S. Marines and was a successful businessman in Connecticut before moving to San Diego to marry Denise Andrus. Skip spent much of his free time involved in triathlons, marathons and century bike rides fundraising for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society even after a cycling accident left him paralyzed. Skip will be remembered for his warmth, compassion, caring ways, and sense of humor. Skip is survived by his wife Denise, son Jeffrey, stepson David, grandsons Brendan, Nathan, and Cameron, sister Betty Mae, in-laws Michael, Mark and Lisa, nephews Greg, Kevin and Christopher, nieces Kerri, Nicolette, and Isabella, great-nephew Connor, and great-niece Kayla. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, September, 24, 2010, at 9 a.m. at St. Catherine Laboure Church, 4124 Mt. Abraham Ave., San Diego, CA; Internment to follow at 12:00 p.m. at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. A celebration of life gathering will be held at Spanish Landing Park West, 4300 N. Harbor Dr., San Diego, CA, by the playground 12:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Skip's name to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at http://sdhi.lls.llsevent.org/skipgleavey. The family expresses their gratitude for Skip's care at Kaiser Permanente and the VA, and to his many friends for their compassionate support.

Although I have only known you for a short time and did not personally know Skip I have come to learn what an incredible fighter he was. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family at this difficult time. He will live in forever in your hearts.
