My warmest hugs to Viola, Jackie and Jeff for the loss of Joaquin. He was a fun, energetic man who was friendly and happy;I always enjoyed seeing him at Jackie's house in Point Loma after he had biked from Encanto. His love for his family was palpable.
You are all so lucky to have his photos and memories to treasure. Love, Maryanne

Dear Vi, Jackie and Jeff: Your dad was person who was so full of life. His energy made me tired. I will always think of him and his bike trip to Baja in the 70's. He will be greatly missed by everyone he has ever known. I will think of him racing cars up in heaven. Marilee Vance

I first met Joaquin when I was 13. To be in the Pits at Paradise Drag Strip back then was a real treat. The last contact I had with Joaquin was during the BBQs at La Mesa. He was the type of person that made you feel as if it were yesterday when you last saw him. One weekend at Paradise all the crew members had a chance to drive the Dragster. The speeds were in the 120s +-. One of the crew blazed thru at maybe 90 mph. When he returned & was getting out of the car, Joaquin said to him, "you didn't wave to me"!! We'll miss him, Earl & Kathy Chenowth, Lakeside

To Vi, Jackie and Jeff, our hearts go out to you with the passing of Joaquin. I've known your family for over 40 years and have a lot of fond memories of Joaquin. One of my best is the trailer he built that carried about 20 bicycles that we used for the Mexico rides. He used the motor home for the sag wagon. And all the cool stories. He used to come by my parts store to buy the mains and rod bearings for the streamliner. He was the last true craftsman when it comes to sheet metal. I will see you all at the mass. With love, Rick, Jodie and Rico Rivera.

It's people like Joaquin, that give the true meaning to the good old days. Paradise Mesa, the abandoned air strip, before Culbert invented timing lights. The Japanese kid with his roadster, Dusty Duty with his rod, and of course the King with the Bandit. What an exciting weekend they made, for all us racers/spectators. I still can see Joaqiun cruising around Encanto in his MG powered mini model T pickup. He was a real gentleman, with a ready smile, and firm hand shake. He always had time to talk to you. He touched the lives of many a person, and will be truly missed. RIP my friend.

We first met the Arnett family bicycling and volunteering for the Bicycling Time Trial Assoc. and then in the love of Hotrods. Joaquin's stories and enthusiasm were so great he made everyone a better person that was around him. He will truly be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

While working at the Automotive Museum for three years, I worked with Jaoquin many times, and it was always a delight to have him and the Bean Bandits club at the Museum. His stories of modifying cars in his youth were like a training manual for cutting and channeling vehicles. And he was always willing to assist me and the Museum. His smiling face will certainly be missed.
My very best thoughts to Vi and his extended family.

As the wife of a late drag racer from the old days I just know that old drag racers never die they just go up in smoke. Spent time talking with the Bean Bandits many times and at the Hot Rod Reunion. Very sad day for San Diego.
