MICHAEL, KENNETH DONALD Kenneth Donald Michael, M.D. formerly of La Jolla, died peacefully on December 4, 2010 at the age of 88 in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Michael graduated from St. Louis University School of Medicine in 1947. A psychiatrist, he completed residency at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, D.C. and served in the U.S. Air Force Medical Corps. He practiced medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, San Diego, and Carlsbad, Ca. and also taught at the University of California, San Diego Medical School. He was a Life fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Michael devoted himself to various social justice concerns throughout his career. He loved sailing, the theatre, and global travel. A former resident of La Jolla, Ca., Dr. Michael and his wife Marguerite were among the founding contributors to the Mingei International Museum of Folk Art in Balboa Park. Dr. Michael was preceded in death by his wife Marguerite. Survivors include his daughters, Diane Ahern (Thomas), Gina Michael Wallis (Marc), Susan Puetz (Dan), son David Michael (Jennifer), and 11 grandchildren (Michael, Brian, Hannah, Louis, Lizzy, Krista, Emily, Lisa, Charlie, Sara, and Thomas). A Memorial Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. December 21, at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Shrewsbury, Mo. A private burial will be held in San Diego, Ca.
