MEREDITH EUGENE "GENE" EBBERT obituary

MEREDITH EBBERT Obituary

EBBERT, MEREDITH EUGENE "GENE" 1920 to 2010 Gene served in the U.S. Navy from January 1941 to August 1960. He was a Pearl Harbor Survivor and served in World War II on the USS Neosho until it was sunk in the Battle of the Coral Sea off the coast of Australia. He retired out of San Diego as a Chief Petty Officer and following his naval service, Gene served twenty years in the Civil Service. Gene proudly volunteered as an election poll worker and for the Red Cross. Gene was born June 30, 1920 in Doland, SD, the first of two sons and three daughters to Walter and Philamelia Ebbert. During the Great Depression his family sold their homestead and moved to Oregon before Gene joined the military. Gene is survived by his wife of 15 years, Jean L. Stelzer Ebbert of La Mesa, CA, his son Merle Jay Ebbert of Julian,CA, his grandsons SFC Arthur Eugene Ebbert of Fort Bragg, NC and MAJ Jonathan Samuel Ebbert of Alexandria, VA, great-grandson, Ryan, great-grand-daughter Abigail, brother Don Ebbert of Eugene, OR, sister Marion Baker of Springfield, OR, sister Ardeth Jones of Corvallis, OR and sister Patty Mathews of Springfield, OR and all of their families. Viewing is from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday, November 5th, service at 10 a.m. and full military service burial at 11 a.m. at the Greenwood Memorial Park and Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Red Cross are requested.
