ROBERT CULBERTSON Obituary

CULBERTSON, ROBERT GRAHAM Sept. 11, 1922 to Oct. 5, 2010 Robert "Bob" Culbertson passed away on Tuesday, October 5, 2010, after an eighteen-year battle with Parkinson's disease. He and his family resided for many years in Point Loma, Mission Hills, Del Mar, and Spokane, Washington. Bob served with the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was an Armament Officer with the 46th Fighter Squadron while the squadron operated from the island of Iwo Jima. He joined the insurance firm Barney & Barney, LLC in 1952 and served as a partner with the firm from 1957 to 1984. "He was a very happy, humorous man who people loved to be with and was known for his pranks and cartoons" (JS). Bob was active in such organizations as the Executives Association of San Diego, the Rest and Aspiration Society, Tax Payers Association, Port District Budget Committee, and various other organizations. Bob was a seventh-generation Californian and a direct descendant of Don Manuel de Boronda, who came to California in 1769 with Father Serra. He was also a descendant of Capt. John Moore of the British Navy, who held Francis Scott Key prisoner on his ship, the HMS Surprise, when Key wrote the "Star Spangled Banner". Bob is survived by his daughter, Brooke Dalton, son-in-law, Dave Dalton, and grandchildren, Joshua, Kimberly, and Matthew Dalton, who reside in Centennial, Colorado. Two grandchildren, Caela Culbertson and Cutter Culbertson, who reside in Seattle, Washington, also survive him. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jacquelyn "Jackie" James Culbertson. His two sons, Scott Culbertson and Barry Culbertson, also preceded him in death. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at Sunrise at Orchard, in Littleton, Colorado, where he received the most amazing care, touched many lives (and shared many jokes), and developed wonderful friendships; date to be determined.

Mr. Culbertson was my favorite partner. When I first started in the insurance business at Barney & Barney in 1974, I met Mr. Culbertson. He was so funny, kind and caring. I also would go to Mr. Culbertson when I needed a check signed or had difficult question. He will be missed. Brooke, your Dad was amazing and will be missed.

When I arrived at B&B and had the opportunity to meet with all the owners, as the new kid on the block, I remember going to Bob's office and there was a paperweight with a bat in it. He had it there just to scare "the girls" and he thought that was so funny. He had the best jokes and I was sad when he retired, he was one of a kind and when he left B&B something was missing. He was truly an asset to the B&B family and will be missed by all who knew him. RIP, Bob.

Whenever Bob and I crossed paths at B&B, he always had a smile on his face. One of my favorite memories of Bob was his method for filling out his football picks. One week, he would select all of the home teams; the next might be the away teams; the pattern the following week could be back and forth between the two. By the end of football season, he had won two weekly pools. Me, after studying all the predictions, ZERO! I've missed Bob since he retired and always looked forward to the partnership dinners for the opportunity to talk with him again. Anyone who knew Bob has some idea of how great your loss truly is.

Mr Culbertson was one of my favorite people at B&B. Whenever I needed a check signed, I would go to him first. He was so friendly and fun loving. I remember him showing me a picture of Brooke on a horse. He was so proud of his daughter.

I have so many great memories of Mr. Culbertson. He was a loving father and a very funny man. I spent a lot of my time at the Culbertson house growing up. I will never forget that he always treated me like part of the family.

Dad was amazing and an awesome roll model !!! He gave of himself with unconditional love to everyone. He was funny, kind, and a joy to be around. His gentle nature brought everyone close to him. He was one in ten million. Even in death he was thinking of others and didn't want to be a burden to those close to him. He is now telling jokes, out of pain, and has eternal joy. You were the best dad, husband, and friend God ever created. We will be together again. and my heart is filled with happiness knowing that.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I worked with Bob at B & B for 13 years and I must say he was my very favorite partner there. He was always very caring and the nicest person you would ever want to know. He will be missed.
