Sam on behalf of my wife, children and and myself we want you to know we still miss you and your frequent visits to our house. Of course we miss Miss Margaret to, the Swedish bread and Fruit Cake she made every year for the family. America lost a Patriot, the Masons lost a dedicated patron, but we lost a true friend. God Bless you and Margaret.

Even after serving with our many great brothers in Foxtrot in 67/8,... whenever I hear the word - "Marine", the voice of Sam Jones goes off like a grenade in my head! A supreme practitioner of tough love, everything he did each day in Vietnam was dedicated to completing our mission and keeping us alive.

Sam, I list myself and my wife as friends but certainly I should write family. You were in our lives for a great part of it and our children to this day and have families of their own still call You Uncle Sam. You and Margaret were and are a big part of their lives. As a Marine you one tough SOB that had every Marine's concern in your heart. You were a master at concealing your feelings but they were present and within you. It is difficult for my family and I to believe you departed for your last duty station in heaven 12 years ago. I hope the people upstairs appreciate you as much as we do. You were a great Marine and a great friend to me and our children love you. We were present when you passed, our son in law Brian, who thought and thinks the world of you too and his son Dylan, our grandson who was born on your birthday. God Bless you and Semper Fidelis, Tony, Khanh & Family

Sam was a special person--serving our country, always a good friend, a total tease with a great sense of humor, a good husband, always willing to help...
He's in a better place now looking down and knowing that we all loved him and will truly miss him.

When I thinl of the Corps, Gunny Jones leaps out of a tree line. "Get it together, Marine!" A role model for not only manhood and Marine, he demonstrated that taking care of others is our real mission and the true spirit in Espirit de Corps. Rest Easy, Dear Brother.

Sam was the type of soldier that other grunts depended on during trying times in combat. I, for one, felt safer in the field under his leadership, and many Marines survived because of his presence. We will miss him dearly. Semper Fi!...Lance Corporal John Gobrecht and wife, Frankie

They should put your picture next to the definition of a Marine Gunnery Sargent in the dictionary. As we attend the Fox 2/5 reunions we find ourselves getting closer and closer to all the Marines that attend. That is what makes us feel extra saddened when we hear the news that one of our brothers has passed. Someone said the rest of us better get our gear in order as we all know who is going to be checking us out when we arrive at the Pearly Gates. Maddy and I will miss you dearly. Semper Fi!
