As the 7th grade year approched I hoped to see you but when you weren't it was awful then after that I heard of your death and I cried my self to sleep that night.

Today was the day I heard of Mr. Flohr's passing at the Varsity football game at Landphier's stadium. The SHS band which I am a part of played there, and that is when I received the news. I could not stop crying, even when my clarinet was in my hands and I was attempting to play.

Mr. Flohr was one of the few favorite teachers of mine from my Middle School years at Franklin, and made them bearable. In his class is where I found my love of World History and ancient cultures, as well as meeting my best friend. By no means was it an easy class, and he wasn't an easy teacher. Current events, memorizing roman numerals and dates, all work. But we had plenty of craft-related projects.

During the time I had home trouble, and I remember staying after in his room talking and laughing with Mr. Flohr. He helped me with my work I was behind on and was always understanding. I loved him like my own father, and he treated me like his own daughter.

I never did track like I said I would, but I may just hold onto that and try my senior year. I has been almost six years since I last saw Mr. Flohr, but I never forgot about him. Being a former student of his made the news of his death very...disconcerting. Many memories were made in his class, and were continued to be made as I passed him in the hall every day. A small hello was exchanged always. I lost my grandmother to cancer in 2006, as well as many other relatives.

Mr. Flohr brightened my day and made life bearable. He was a positive influence, even if it was a bit of a loud one. I still think about him, even now as a junior in high school. I will miss him very much as a teacher, friend, and mentor.

Love ya Mr. Flohr. Please rest in peace and my condolences to the family. I did not hear about his passing until today, and would have made visitation if I had known. Goodbye.

I am saddened to hear of Mr. Flohr's passing as both a former student of his and runner with the track and cross country teams. He was a dedicated teacher and coach and he helped me realize my potential in both fields.

I had him in sixth grade for the 2001-02 school year, and one of my strongest memories of him was seeing him comfort the class on 9/11 and assuring me in particular that it was completely normal to have an emotional response. Moments like that proved to me that he was as kind as he was determined.

You will be deeply missed. I went for a run in Washington Park today in your honor, and I will think of you every time I run from now on.

Our son was a student of Mr. Flohr in 2005. To this day I remember his weekly assignment which required his history class students to write a paper on a current event and connect that event to what the class was studying. The assignment taught critical thinking skills and it was graded on style and grammar as well as content. Mr. Flohr set a high but fair bar in his class. There was no grade inflation in his classroom. An "A" was tough to come by. He was without peer as a teacher and as a coach.

My sincere sorrow at the early passing of Scott Flohr. I worked with Scott during his student days at the University of Illinois. He showed excellent scholarship, interest in the field of education, and kind regard for others. My deep sympathy to his family and friends.

Mr. Flohr was my 6th grade World History teacher. Although he had high expectations for us and we hated doing all those current events, he was a fabulous teacher and will be missed by hundreds of students. It's been 6 years since I was in his class, but I can remember it like it was yesterday. RIP Mr. Flohr. Thank you for all you did for us.
