EDWIN KRAUSE Obituary

Edwin (Ed) Edward Krause of Mount Vernon passed away on Monday, March 14, 2011.

He was born in Amboy, Minnesota on May 19, 1919 where he spent his early years. He moved to Peoria, Illinois in his late teens and worked in heavy equipment manufacturing. He served in the US navy during World War II until 1946 and then settled in Seattle.

In 1952 he purchased a small dairy farm in the Machias/Lake Roesiger area northeast of Snohomish. During the next 15 years he expanded the herd and upgraded the farm and was active in the Dairymen's Association. In 1967, as his family was mostly grown, he sold off the dairy stock and part of the land.

Ed then ran a newspaper delivery service covering the Lake Stevens, Granite Falls, Machias, and Lake Roesiger communities until he retired in the mid 1980's. In 1979 Ed married Evelyn (Eve) Holiman and moved to Marysville.

After retiring, Ed and Eve enjoyed fishing and traveling in their fifth-wheel across the western United States. Since two of his sons are commercial fisherman in Alaska, they also spent time in Alaska sport and commercial fishing with his sons.

Ed is survived by his wife, Eve, and children: Ginny (Krause) Mullen, Lee (and Tina) Krause, Volney (and Linda) Smith, Viston (and Susann) Smith, Karen (and Craig) McClure, Mike (and Nancy) Holiman, Chuck (and Melissa Holiman), and Kari Torfin; 18 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his son, Dale Krause, in 1979.

A memorial service will be held at Ebenezer Lutheran Church, 2111 117th NE Avenue, Lake Stevens on Friday, March 25, at 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be given to Hospice of the Northwest, 819 South 13th Street, Mount Vernon, WA 98274.

Ed was a good friend and an outstanding man. He was warm, sometimes funny, but most of all he was a very hard working man who operated a dairy farm and was well respected by my family and all his neighbors, He was always willing to help a neighbor out. I was much younger than Ed but had a great relationship with him and considered him a very good friend.

Dear Eve,
Please know that my heart and prayers go out to you. Ed and Tom were such great friends. My mind is flooded with wonderful memories of the two of you. I can't go by the old house here in Marysville that I don't wonder how you are. Thank you for all the coffee and hospitality. Ed will be missed. Can you imagine Ed and Tom having coffee, catching up on things? Take care Eve.

Ed was always a great help to anyone who needed it and always had a smile for everyone. Sometimes when you are fairly young you never comprehend how wonderful some people are. Ed was one of the really good guys in the Forest Glade area.

It was great getting to know Ed in the last years of his life. He knew my Dad and uncles and I enjoyed hearing stories about them and his memories of Snohomish and Machias where I grew up. I will miss our visits. My sincere sympathy to all his family.
