G. Martin Hodgin, 83, a longtime resident of the Hamilton community, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at United General Hospital in Sedro-Woolley.

He was born on June 11, 1927 in Franklin, North Carolina, the son of Charles Dee & Irene (Ledford) Hodgin.

In 1933 the Hodgin family moved to Hamilton where Martin was raised and attended grade school. He graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1946.

Cunningham Logging for several years; he also worked as an operator in the log yard for Boyd Lumber & Sedro-Woolley Lumber until his retirement in 1991.

On February 11, 1950 Martin was united in marriage to Marie Lanktree in Langley, Washington and for over 60 years they have made their home together in Hamilton where they raised their children, horses and cattle on their farm.

Martin was an avid horseman and a longtime member of the Skagit County Back Country Horsemen; a longtime member of the Central United Methodist Church in Sedro-Woolley, a member of the American Legion in Concrete and the Eagles in Twisp.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dee & Irene, an infant sister, Mary and his sister and brother-in-law, June & Duwayne Anderson.

Graveside Inurnment Services will be held at the Hamilton Cemetery on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Marilyn Kallshian officiating. A fellowship will follow services at the Central United Methodist Church in Sedro-Woolley.

Marie and family, so sorry for your loss. At one poker ride Martin and I passed out cards, he played a Patsy Cline cd the whole time, we had a great time. I am always glad to see both of you at gatherings, if Martin was there, then I always had someone to talk to! He will be missed.

We had this friendly sparring rivalry with Martin over making and selling hay. He would always tease us about getting rich from the hay business. We enjoyed his stories of packing in the mountains and he never failed to have something good to say. We already miss him.
