LYDA ROBISON Obituary

Lyda "Charly" Robison, a longtime resident of La Conner, died in Mount Vernon on Monday, May 9, 2011 after a brief illness.
Lyda was born March 23, 1906 to Edward and Barbara (Hegner) Brockman in Cincinnati, Ohio. She had one brother, Frank Brockman who predeceased her in 1985.

Lyda's mother passed away when she was three years old and she went to live with her grandparents. After the death of her grandmother, Lyda was raised by her beloved Aunt Lyda and Uncle Will.

Upon completion of her basic education in Cincinnati public schools Lyda went on to receive her Liberal Arts degree from The University of Cincinnati, and a Master's Degree in Library Science from Columbia University in New York City in 1929. Following graduation from Columbia Lyda came west to Seattle to accept employment at Seattle Public Library.

Lyda met Raymond Robison at a dance in Seattle and they were married in 1933. They lived on a houseboat near the University of Washington. This was during the depression and Ray, although having graduated from the University's College of Engineering, was unable to obtain regular employment so he and Lyda operated a nautical shop near Coleman Dock in Seattle.

Lyda and Ray retired to La Conner in 1971 and were very active in the restoration of the Gaches Mansion and the local dance clubs in the Skagit Valley. Lyda resided at the family home on the Swinomish Channel in Shelter Bay until 2005 when she moved to The La Conner Retirement Inn.

Lyda is survived by her son, Brock Robison and his wife Frankye of Richmond Beach; her daughter, Bette Browne of Anacortes; her granddaughter, Lorie Robison of Seattle; and her niece and nephew, Jean and Bill Brockman and their children.

A memorial service for friends and family will be announced at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to the La Conner Library, POB 370, La Conner, WA 98257 or to the Humane Society of Skagit Valley, 18841 Kelleher Road, Burlington, WA 98233.
Arrangements are under the care of Kern Funeral Home.

Wednesday night at the Mount Vernon Elks was "Senior's Night. Charly and Ray and the rest of the group would come in for dinner and following dinner would dance until the band went home. Those of us who worked there knew what a special person Charly was. She left us with many happy memories
