Tlane, my college nickname for him , was a team mate, house mate, and friend at Western. TLane could punt the football 60+ yards and it seems I was always on his squad for the punt return drill. Thanks for the extra 30 yds Tlane it payed off in the games. As a house mate at the infamous 10-oh-4 Indian St. Tlane every night after dinner would go down in the basement and work out on his cables, I think now they are now called powerbands. We all envied his superman physic. Tlane also enhanced our reputation as thee party house when he spent his 1st teaching paycheck to buy every psychedelic alblum available: Jefferson Airplane, Cream, Country Joe and The Fish, Janis Joplin was their lead singer I think, and many more. It took 3 trips to his car to unload them. And as a friend Tlane gave me some advice that influenced my life. I was undecided if I should major in math or PE. Tlane said, "Go with the math, PE teachers are all over the place, and if your number comes up in the draft for the Vietnam war you will probably get an occupational deferment." It did and with a new wife and a baby on the way during my 1st yr of teaching high school math, assistant coaching football, and head wrestling coach I still recall my sigh of relief and the big thanks I sent Tlane's way when I got that deferment. Sorry Tlane and I didn't stay in touch after our college yrs, but ran into him now and then at math conferences and wrestling clinics. However, as the last line in the saying in his obituary personally modified says, "Tlane will be forever near, for Tlane lives within my heart." My condolences.

My earliest memory of Mr. Lane was watching the muppet show with him before my piano lessons. Later he was my science teacher in high school. You will be missed. My sympathy to Marilyn and the family

My junior year physics class may have been my favorite class in high school. And I think the 20 of us that took the class together would probably agree. The tone of the class was lighthearted, humorous, fun, and never very serious. Terry would laugh (occasionally) with us, we would make fun of him, and he would give it right back, or just ignore us. I think when you are the biggest and smartest guy in the room, a bunch of 17 year olds who think they know something are hardly intimidating! I think Terry knew more about literature than most English majors, could walk on hand across the wrestling room, and thought solving differential equations was fun. People like that don't come along very often. Thanks for being patient and treating everyone equally. Thanks for letting me drive your daughter and her friends around the greater Skagit Valley. Thanks for your dry sense of humor. Thanks for being there for us. We will never forget you!

I graduated in 2007, and my class had the pleasure of having Mr. Lane (or Terbear as we affectionately called him) as not only our teacher, but as our class advisor through our 4 years of high school. He was an awesome person, with the most interesting sense of humor, thanks to his joke book! He had the biggest heart, and he genuinely cared for his students. I was very saddened to hear of his passing, and I am so very thankful that I knew him. Mr. Lane, you were a great man, I bet you're up in Heaven right now, telling Jesus all your jokes. We love you Terbear! Rest Easy.
