FRANCES ENGEN Obituary

Frances Almeda Estvold Engen went to meet her Lord and son on Wednesday, January 12, 2011. She died peacefully with her husband and daughter at her side at Island Hospital in Anacortes. Frances was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota on May 7, 1930, the daughter of Martin and Almeda (Shonblom) Estvold.

She lived many places during her life but Anacortes was her home for the past 25 years. Frances was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, whom will be missed by the many people who knew and loved her gentle spirit, kind soul, and big heart. Her smile could light up any room and her simple sense of being was her strongest quality.

Frances's greatest joy was her family and grandson and volunteering at Island Hospital for nearly 20 years. She was a loving companion to her husband for 61 years and best friend to her daughter. Frances will be greatly missed but always remembered and loved. All who met Frances will take a piece of her as they go forward with their lives.

Her son, Matthew Thomas Engen; her parents, Martin and Almeda Estvold; stepmother, Clara Estvold; sister, Violet Mary Ann Estvold; brothers, Milford Alvin Estvold and Norris Martin Estvold; and sister-in-law, Doris T. Estvold, preceded her in death.

Frances is survived by her husband, Alfred (Curley) Engen; daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Jess Talosi and grandson, Tristan Talosi, all of Anacortes, Washington; sister-in-law, Vonnie Estvold; nieces and nephews, Vicki Cheney, Cathy and Neil Crawford, Susan and Barry Sehlin, Carol and Gary Baker, Marc and Pam Estvold, Guy Estvold, Terie and Jim Kenote, Steve and Delrae Estvold; and her many great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Anacortes Lutheran Church. Private family interment will be at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes. The family welcomes you to come and celebrate her life and her never-ending sweet spirit that will live on in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Nathan Estvold Memorial Scholarship fund at the Anacortes Schools Foundation, 2200 M Avenue, Anacortes, Washington, 98221.

Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
