BEVERLY RASAR Obituary

Beverly Anne Rasar, age 77, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Mount Vernon on Friday, February 18, 2011. She was born to Constance and Everett Ray Miller in Spokane, Washington on May 15, 1933.

Beverly was a resident of Skagit County for most of her adult life. Graduating from Burlington Edison High School in 1951, she attended college at Western Washington College for one year. She then worked as a secretary for the Alaska Steamship Company in Seward Alaska as well as Shell Oil in Anacortes.

She was married in 1953 to Dan Rasar for 23 years.

She completed her college degree at age 38 with straight A's, not counting archery and a pottery class. Beverly finished her Master's Degree in counseling in 1972. After graduating she was hired as a counselor at Stanwood High School, where she worked for 20 years until retiring in 1993.

Starting in 1985 Bev also worked 5 summers at her set net site in Ekuk, Alaska as a commercial fisherman.

Bev was a member of Mensa, an avid reader, enjoyed sewing, traveling and playing bridge with her local circle of special friends.

She raised two sons Jeff and Kevin and was blessed in 2000 with her only grandson, Nicholas, who became her best friend. They have a very special bond.

Born as a giver and not a taker, she spent her entire life doing for others whether it was hemming a pair of pants, baking a pie or making her world famous potato salad, she put everyone else's lives in front of hers. She was an intelligent, caring, generous, vigorous, fun-loving woman who was thankful for all the wonderful people who shared her journey through life and will be truly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by sons Jeff Rasar (Karen) and Kevin Rasar (Cheryl); grandchildren Holle Edwards & Nicholas Rasar; brothers Dennis Miller (Jo), Brian Miller (Denise); sister Laurae Dunning (Ted - deceased); nephews Brian Rucker (Amanda), Rob Rucker (Jason) and Carl Miller (April).

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to BEHS Education Endowment Fund, c/o Burlington Rotary, P.O. Box 185, Burlington, WA 98233.

A celebration of Beverly's life is planned for 5-01-11 at Hillcrest Lodge in Mount Vernon. Details will follow at a later date.

I am so sad that she will not be with us here anymore. I have not known your Mom for many years but we toured China with her and she kept us laughing the whole time. We were privilaged to know her and she will be missed. Mary and Howard Anderson
