CHARLES JONES Obituary

Former Burlington resident, Charles E. Jones died unexpectedly January 3rd back home in Texas....defying the laws of gravity. As our family likes to say, Grandpa was "stubborn as an old mule" and went out of this world being as independent as he always was. Charlie, 82, was born January 7, 1928 to Denton & Beaulah Jones of Oakland, Texas.

As a young man, he served a term in the Navy. In 1949 he began a life-long career with the railroad beginning with the Great Northern Railroad and retiring from Burlington Northern in 1988. Charlie was an avid horseman, collector of unfinished projects and a man of many interests.

In 1961, Charlie married Cleo and began the journey of fatherhood to Judy. Westport became their "spot" enjoying many uninterrupted weeks of fishing and each other's company. Charlie and Cleo enjoyed life on their farm and especially enjoyed their grandchildren. Grandpa and Granny were generous and made it a priority to make each grandchild feel special; whether it be fishing, caring for animals, a special dinner date, hot cocoa, a day at the sale barn, riding horses or going for a train ride.

Charlie is survived by his current wife Linda Jones of Texas; his daughter Judy (Larry) Adkins; 3 grandchildren, Tammy (Vern) Ringhouse, Pam (Terry) Ringhouse, Bob (Donna) Adkins; 7 great-grandchildren, Tori (Brian) Jackson, Ryan (Alyssa) Ringhouse, Wendy, Sara & Matthew Ringhouse, Seldom & Dakota Adkins and 4 great-great-grandchildren Aurora, Shane, Tavin & Paxton; his many friends; and beloved animals.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, a special aunt and uncle and Cleo, his wife of 34 years.

A celebration of life will be planned for a later day. In lieu of cards or flowers, remembrance donations can be made to the Gretzky Fund: North Cascade Vet Hospital, 200 Murdock St., Sedro Woolley, WA 98284.
