HANS WISLER Obituary

Hans Wisler, Age 102 + 11 months, passed away peacefully at home from natural causes on Wednesday, April 6, 2011.

Hans was born in Bremen, Germany on May 10, 1908 to Swiss parents Karl Wisler and Marie Katherina Wisler (nee Gartner). Hans was raised in Switzerland. While living in Switzerland he served in the Swiss Army. In 1929 Hans immigrated to America and became a U.S. citizen in 1935.

He and Clara were married May 20, 1939 in Yuma, AZ. Hans belonged to the Holtville Swiss Rifle Club and earned trophies for his marksmanship while living in Imperial Valley, CA.

In 1948 Hans and Clara moved to Sedro Woolley, WA. They owned a family dairy farm. While on the dairy farm he and Clara belonged to the Swiss Club where Hans served as Secretary for two years. Hans was named Skagit Valley Father of the Year in 1955. The Wislers received the Dairy of Merit Award in 1958.

Hans and Clara retired from the dairy farm in 1972 and moved to Mount Vernon where they lived for 30 years. True retirement was accomplished when they moved to The Cedars in Burlington.

Clara was Hans' lifetime friend, partner and constant companion. Hans and Clara enjoyed square dancing with the Skagit Squares for approximately 30 years. Hans served as Vice President for two terms with the Skagit Squares.

The Wislers supplied ample produce from their prolific gardens and fruit orchard for themselves, family and friends. Their flower gardens brought joy to all who shared in them.

Hans was the oldest of nine children and was preceeded in death by all of his siblings: Tea, Marily, Anna, Albertine, Dora, Trudi, Karl and Emil. Hans was also preceeded in death by youngest son, Richard.

Hans is survived by his beloved wife, Clara. They were happily married for 71 years. Their surviving children are: Marguerite and Pete Granger of Port Townsend, WA; Walter and LaVonne Wisler of Cathedral City, CA; Barbara and Tom Gray of Selah, WA; daughter-in-law Tracie Wisler and companion Tom Meek of Burlington, WA; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be private.

Hans was the patriarch of an open-hearted loving family that extended to steps, in-laws and out-laws.
