SERENITY ROSE THOMAS

1998 - 2015

Our beloved Serenity Rose Thomas, age16, of Anacortes, passed away in the arms of her parents, surrounded by family, at Seattle Children's Hospital on August 5, 2015, after a short, intense battle with leukemia. She was born in Mount Vernon on August 21, 1998, with Down syndrome. Serenity taught us to live one day at a time and enjoy each moment. She filled our lives with music, dancing, laughter, mischief, and sunshine. Serenity attended school in Anacortes where her favorite classes were Drama, PE, and Choir. She especially enjoyed her classmates, participated in Special Olympics and Skagit County Buddy Walks. She attended Art Club and the Farmer's Market, went to the Library and participated in classes at Act Theatre for 3 consecutive years. She made many friends in these activities, and loved our International students like sisters. She loved doing so many things – singing, petting animals, holidays, dressing up, acting, parties, festivals, writing her own stories, flowers, balloons, balls, bubbles, parades, and especially Disney princesses. Serenity leaves behind her parents, Don Thomas and Cato Woods, her siblings, Alex and Ariel Popp, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and countless friends. Memorials may be made in honor of Serenity to: Buddy Walk of Skagit County, c/o SPARC, 320 Pacific Place, Mount Vernon WA 98273 and Seattle Children's Hospital, 4800 Sand Point Way NE, Seattle WA 98105. We extend a huge hug and thank you to all those who allowed Serenity to touch their lives and who have touched ours. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Evans Funeral Chapel, 1105 – 32nd Street in Anacortes. All are invited to celebrate the life of Serenity at a funeral service at Anacortes Christian Church, 1211 M Avenue at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, August 9, 2015. Please bring a dish to share for a potluck reception following the service. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 10, 2015 at Grand View Cemetery in Anacortes.
