Theresa Lewis Obituary
Theresa was born on June 12, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois. She was a graduate of East Lansing High School and continued her education at LSSU earning her Bachelor Degree and her Master Degree (2014). She has strong family ties to the Three Affiliated Tribes – Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation and Wikwemikoong First Nation. Theresa enjoyed her work with the Language Emersion Program in Sault Ste. Marie and dancing at Pow Wows in a jingle dress. She loved spending time with her grandkids and the rest of her family.
Theresa is survived by her father Byron Lewis of Lansing, MI, two sons: Juan Daniel (Larrissa) Chavez of Minot, ND and Carlos Andres Chavez of Dallas, TX; three grandchildren: Evelyn, Caleb, and Lauren Chavez; nine brothers and sisters: Byron "Junior" Lewis of Wisconsin, Brian Begay of Sault Ste. Marie, Glenda Lewis and Roseann Lewis both of Wisconsin, Tracy Lewis of Colorado, Reggie (Holly) Abel of Lansing, MI, Nicholas Jacko of Wikwemikoong, Ontario and Miranda Jackson of Thunder Bay, Ontario; and special relatives Cheryl (Dave) Bernier of Brimley, MI and Richard Lewis of Sault Ste. Marie. She is predeceased by her mother: Victoria Lincoln; and paternal grandparents Lawrence & Peggy Lewis.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2018, at the Niigaanagiizhik Cultural Building. Friends may call at the cultural center from 10 a.m. until the time of the ceremony.

Theresa, a kind and gentle soul, who left a sacred gift with the Sault Tribe Early Childhood Programs, will be deeply missed. She shared her knowledge of our language with the children, staff and families in our community. I am so honored to have worked with this beautiful woman.
