MISHAWAKA - Peter Ellenberger, age 75, residing in Mishawaka, Indiana passed away at 10:57 pm Thursday, October 13, 2016 at his home. He retired from Bayer where he worked as a supervisor in material management.

Peter was born on July 15, 1941 in Ecseny, Hungary to the late John and Maria (Horvath) Ellenberger. He moved to South Bend in 1953 from Hungary. On June 2, 1982 in South Bend, IN, he married Helene Schmidt Ellenberger, who survives.

Peter is survived by his loving wife, Helene; daughters, Petra (Carl) Barnard and Sabrina Ellenbergers; son, Peter (Karen) Ellenberger, Jr. and Karlheinz Schreiber; son-in-law, Manfred; eighteen grandchildren; and fourteen great grandchildren. One daughter, Bridgette Ponherr and two brothers, Henry and John Ellenberger all preceded Peter in death.

Peter served thirteen years in the United States Army and the Army Reserves. He was an active member of American Legion Post 308, Osceola. He enjoyed going fishing and spending time with his grandkids. He like the outdoors and camping. Peter especially enjoyed dancing with Helene. He was a jokester and enjoyed making people laugh.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Military honors will follow the service. Pastor Chuck Wotring will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 pm Thursday until time of services.

Sending my condolences to Helene and the family for this great loss. I had the privilege of caring for Peter these past few months. He was always very welcoming, always with a smile on his face, and so very kind. He and Helene are such wonderful people! He will now be a guardian angel watching over his loved ones. Helene, thank you so very much for allowing me the opportunity to work with Peter. The highlight of my week was always coming and visiting with you guys! Please keep in touch!

So sorry to Peters passing. I worked with him at Bayer many years. He was a first class person, hardworking, honest and fun to be around. Many great memories.
