James Funk Obituary

James H. Funk Dec. 14, 1928 - Nov. 8, 2014 SOUTH BEND - James H. Funk, 85, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, November 8, 2014, at his home. He was born on December 14, 1928, in Plymouth, IN, to the late Clyde Harvey and Jenny Ellen (French) Funk. On October 23, 1954, in Mishawaka, IN, he was united in marriage to the former Betty Dee Holbert. Mr. Funk is survived by his wife, Betty D. Funk; daughter, Carol Ann (Robert) Ives of Flora, IN; two sons, James E. Funk of Seoul, South Korea, and David W. (Julie) Funk of Osceola, IN; and two grandsons, Kevin James Ives and Austin Michael Funk. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Esther Smiley and Mary Miller. Mr. Funk lived most of his life in South Bend. He was a graduate of South Bend College of Commerce and Indiana University, South Bend. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Funk was employed by Uniroyal at the Joliet army ammunition plant for a year and a half and most of his time at the Mishawaka plant retiring in 1987. During his years at Uniroyal, he was a certified member of the American Society of Transportation and Logistics and the Uniroyal Management Club. He was a member of the VFW Post 360 Mishawaka, Ply-mouth-Kilwinning Lodge 149 F. & AM. and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, IN followed by military honors. Burial has taken place at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services. Contributions in memory of James Funk may be offered to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674 or American Diabetes Foundation, 115 S.
