REX BROWNING

LOGAN, W.Va. — Rex Eudell Browning, 94, of Logan, departed this life Sunday, May 1, 2016 at Logan Regional Medical Center.

Rex was born September 24, 1921, at his parents' home at Wilkinson, W.Va., the son of the late Walter Johnson and Orpha Vicie Tabor Browning. He was the oldest of six children.

Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by three of his siblings: Bonnie Jean Browning, Pauline Evelyn Browning Sammons, and Bill R. Browning.

Rex was a 1939 graduate of Logan High School. He served his country from 1942-1945 in the United States Army, including surviving six months in a German prisoner of war camp during World War II.

His work history includes being timekeeper at Island Creek Coal Company. He then was a business partner in both Hale & Browning Building Contractors and Browning & Stacy Building Contractors.

He and his wife Lucy, who preceded him in death, were married in 1946, and celebrated 68 wedding anniversaries together. They were active members of First Christian Church of Logan. Rex also pastored the Justice Christian Church for thirty-three years, and was very community-minded. He was a long-time member of the Logan Kiwanis Club, a life-time member of Kiwanis International, was president of the Logan County Community Chest, and served on the Salvation Army Board.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Barry D. (Lisa) Browning of Kansas City, Kan.; his daughter, Janet L. Browning of Logan; grandsons: Brian C. Browning of Washington, D.C. and Kevin D. Browning of Falls Church, Va.; sister, Betty Lee Jenkins of Mitchell Heights; brother, John David (Judith) Browning of Lexington, Ky.; sisters-in-law, Barbara Browning of Monaville and Joyce Smith of Whitman; seven nieces; two nephews, and many friends. He also had three special caregivers: Tammy and Tommy Wiley and Stephanie Fields.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, at First Christian Church of Logan with Rev. Andy Wade and Rev. Dr. Charles Wood officiating. Burial, with Military Graveside Rites, will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

In lieu of flowers please memorial contributions to the First Christian Church of Logan, 413 Main ST. Logan, WV 25601.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, at Honaker Funeral Home and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.

Honaker Funeral Home at Logan is in charge of arrangements.

Mom and Dad have shared many memories
that they have had with Rex and Lucy over the years. I also have great memories of Rex,he always had time to talk with me when i called on him in his store, his loyalty to the Boy Scouts,and the congregation of Justice Christian Church. My thoughts and prayers go out to Lucy, Janet and Barry at this time The Brownings have made a big difference in the Samson Family.
