Rev. Richard Stoughton Jr.

The Rev. Richard Stoughton Jr., formerly of Brockton, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at the age of 94. He is survived by his wife, Betty (Sawyer) Stoughton of Wellfleet and Jaffrey, N.H. He served as pastor at East Congregational Church in East Jaffrey, N.H., from 1945-1957. He pastored Porter Congregational Church in Brockton from 1957-1980 and later served Christ Congregational Church from 1980-1986. After retiring to Wellfleet, he became the summer pastor of the Truro Congregational Parish in Truro, from 1987-2010. Rev. Stoughton was predeceased by his first wife of 51 years, Charlotte (Hawkes) Stoughton. He is survived by his daughters, Martha McNeil and her husband Christopher of Brockton and Nanci Blakeslee and her fiance Austin Duvernoy of Ithaca, N.Y.; and son, Thomas Stoughton of Raynham, husband of the late Ruth Stoughton; brother of Virginia Stoughton of Turners Falls, Francis Stoughton and his wife Linda of Norton, Ohio. Rev. Stoughton was the proud grandfather of 9 grandchildren, Joanne, Daniel, and Linda McNeil, Adam, Benjamin, Samantha Blakeslee, and Meredith (Stoughton) Bohannon, Michael Stoughton, and Andrea (Stoughton) Sawyer. Also survived by 7 great-grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 24, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Wellfleet, on Main Street, in Wellfleet.
