Clarence Levy Obituary

Clarence "Brother Chief" Levy, 87, of Raynham, formerly of Bridgewater and Wareham, died March, 17, 2015, in Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital, after a brief illness. The "Chief" was born in Bridgewater, son of the late Doris M. (LeClair) and Clarence A. Levy Sr., and was a longtime Bridgewater resident graduating from Bridgewater High School in 1945 and earned an associate's degree in Fire Science from Massasoit Community College in Brockton. Brother was the former chief of the Bridgewater Fire Department and a dedicated public servant of Bridgewater from 1954-1987 serving on numerous boards and committees. He was a charter member and past president of the Bridgewater Veterans Club, member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the Fire Chiefs Association of Massachusetts and the Plymouth County Fire Chiefs Asssociation. Brother was a founding father and past president of the Bridgewater Youth Football Program and a Navy veteran serving on the USS Grayson. He was the husband of the late Barbara A. (Damon) Levy; father of retired lieutenant Bridgewater Fire Department Michael W. Levy and his wife Barbara J. of Bridgewater, John E. Levy and his wife Deborah L. of Longbranch, N.J., David A. Levy of Raynham, Robert O. and his wife Sharon M. Levy of Taunton and Bridgewater Deputy Fire Chief Thomas D. and his wife Lorraine A. Levy of Raynham. The Chief was the proud grandfather of Kimberly Houlihan, Christopher Levy, Jaclyn Williams, Kelly Levy, Alyson Golder, Jessica Levy, Danielle Levy, Bethany Levy, Bryan Levy, Katherine Levy and Caroline Levy; great-grandfather of Michelle Belcher, Meagan Chuckran, Ella Levy, Emma Levy, Brianna Levy, Savannah Levy, Nate Williams, Braedyn Williams and Brody Williams; great great-grandfather of Valerie Jean Belcher; brother of William H. (Bee) Levy of Bridgewater, Helen (Sister) Folloni of Halifax and the late Ruth Turski and James E. (Teddy) Levy. The Chief leaves behind his many sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and his many friends. Funeral from the Prophett-Chapman Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford Street, Bridgewater, Saturday at 9 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Bridgewater, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday 4-8 p.m. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Sorry to hear this sad news. Back in what I think were the best days in our town of Bridgewater's history, Brother was the Chief of a fine fire department and all dear friends to the entire community. His passing is the end of an era.
