My condolences to Diane and the family on Bob's death. He began his full-time work at The Boston Globe on the night news desk as the scheduler and weather editor, then hit his stride in the mid-to-late 1970s when he was assigned to the team that superintended the newsroom's move to computer-driven processes. For the next quarter-century or so, he was the answer man/solution man for the newsroom staff and, in particular, the editors on the copy/production desks at night over thousands of editions. It was as if his job, so perfectly linked to his talents, had been created for him, and for the paper, by an occult hand. God bless this stalwart and diligent family man who every day brought those virtues to his positions at the Globe.

I was very sorry to hear about Bob's passing.I worked for a vendor for one of the systems used at the Globe, and interacted frequently with Bob. He was always incredibly helpful and thoughtful - a real class act.

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Bob as a caring supportive leader at CAP. He was always willing to offer help and encouragement. I was fortunate enough to be able to spend time with him as we worked together to help the next generation develop as leaders and people. My thoughts are with all of you.

Bob was instrumental in bringing The Boston Globe newsroom into the electronic age, helping it make the transition from typewriters to computers in the late 1970s! Throughout his Globe career, he was friendly, informed and endlessly optimistic that the transition would help make The Globe a better newspaper.

I will miss Bob. He was a creative and thoughtful guide to those of us who made the transition from typewriters to computers in the newspaper world.
