Maria Canto Obituary

PEMBROKE Mrs. Maria (Lopes) Canto, 81 of Cranston RI, formerly of Pembroke, died at home on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. The daughter of the late Raul and Antonia (Santos) Lopes, she was born in Portugal on August 1, 1928. She was raised and educated in Portugal and had lived in Pembroke before moving to Rhode Island 11 years ago. Mrs. Canto had been employed as a Real Estate Broker, ran an Import Export Business and had been a Counselor for Communities for People for 30 years. She was a member of the Pembroke Womens Auxiliary, enjoyed dancing and traveling. Wife of the late Henry L. Canto. She is survived by 1 daughter, Amelia Canto of Cranston RI, 1 brother, John Nelson Lopes of New Bedford and 1 sister Maria Estella Silva of Quincy. She was the mother of the late Rudolph Z. Canto. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St., Rte 53 in HANOVER on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Service in the Funeral Home on Saturday at 11 AM.
