Samuel Cloninger

GAFFNEY, SC-- Samuel Yates Cloninger, 83, of 205 Brittany Road, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 10, 2010, at Spartanburg Restorative Care.
Born in Kings Mountain, NC, he was the husband of Marie Kirby Cloninger and the son of the late John Cloninger and Ethel Goldsmith Cloninger. He was a retired salesperson for 20th Century Fox, former buyer for Consolidated and Eastern Federal Theatres, and former Regional Manager for Columbia Pictures. Mr. Cloninger attended North Carolina State University and was a member of the Rotary Club and American Legion. He was a U. S. Navy veteran and a member of Buford Street United Methodist Church where he was on the Board of Trustees, Building Fund and chairman of the Dr. Jay Hammett Scholarship Fund.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Larry Bostic of Gaffney; a daughter, Sandra Hermann of Landrum; three brothers, Ken Cloninger and wife, Doris of Kings Mountain, NC, Don Cloninger of Mooresville, NC and Jerry Cloninger and wife, Debbie of Marion, OH; a sister, Francena Strand of Eau Claire, WI; two grandchildren, Kelly Ives and husband, Mark and Timothy Bostic and wife, Ginnie; and seven great-grandchildren, Brandon Ives, Kendall Bostic, Keilly Bostic, Caleb and Ryan, and Seirra Bostic and Serena Bostic. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Cloninger; and four sisters, Grace Broome, Mae Flowers, Alda Sells and Ann Cloninger.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM on Friday, May 14, 2010, at Buford Street United Methodist Church.
Memorial services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM at the Church with Rev. Joseph James and Rev. Bobby McFalls officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Buford Street United Methodist Church "Family Life Center", 120 E. Buford Street, Gaffney, SC 29340.
The family will be at the residence.
