Olive Sparrow Obituary

SPARROW,
Olive Lillie
"Billie"

Olive was born on August 19, 1912 to William and Fay Gambles in Downey, Idaho. She was the oldest of three children. She was married to Willard Floyd Sparrow in the Logan Temple on November 4, 1931. They had five children, Colleen, Glenda, Dee, Terry and Don. They moved from southern Idaho to Spokane in 1945, and resided in her present home for 63 years.
She was a talented seamstress and many friends and family were owners of her beautiful creations. She loved to read and spent hundreds of hours on counted cross-stitching. She was legendary for her homemade rolls. She was a very active member of the LDS church and was the oldest member in the Spokane Valley Stake Center.
Olive enjoyed her large extended family and friends. She was known for her sense of style, always looking her best. She was independent and able to live on her own until the last week of her life. Olive died peacefully on Mother's Day, May 8, 2011.
Olive is preceded in death by her husband Floyd; her brother Zeb; her sister Elaine and a great-great-grandson Tyler. She is survived by her children Colleen Linza (Tony), Glenda Hammer, Dee Sparrow (Lynne), Terry Sparrow (Judy), Don Sparrow (Dori); 16 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 12th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thornhill Valley Chapel, 1400 S. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 13th prior to the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Bowdish Chapel, 4014 S. Bowdish, Spokane Valley, WA.

We are so very sorry to hear of Grandmas passing. She was a kind and loving woman. Because we live in California most of our visits were via cards, letters and pictures along with the occasional phone call. She was able to go to Vegas a few years back for our son Troy's wedding at which point there were 5 generations together. She will be missed and our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.
