Lewis KAGELE Obituary

KAGELE, Lewis W. (Age 90) Was born on November 3, 1923 to Jake and Martha (Bischoff) Kagele in Ritzville, WA. Lewis grew up on the family farm and attended school in Ritzville graduating from Ritzville High School. Lewis later married Darlene Schell on November 18, 1945 in Ruff, WA. They were farmers and ranchers southwest of Odessa and later owned and operated the Odessa Golf Course, where they built their retirement home and continued to live until Darlene's death in 2009. Lewis continued to live in Odessa until his health made it necessary to move to the Rose Garden Estates in Ritzville, WA where he has lived for the past three years. Lewis was an avid hunter, golfer, horseman, and outdoorsman. In his younger years he competed in many Northwest rodeos as a tie-down roper. He also took great pride in the mules he bred and trained for packing and riding. The scripture he loved to quote is; "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it." I first met Lewis when I moved to Odessa in 1983. He made me feel welcome as a newcomer. He was a true gentleman and an outstanding civic leader. I feel honored and enriched to have known him and to be considered his friend.

My thoughts and prayers to the Kagele family. I have such wonderful memories of Lewis. Each and every time I go golfing, I envision Lewis "sweeping the kitchen floor" just before I pitch and run. You will be greatly missed, Lewis.

Many wonderful memories of our visits to you. Your parents were both very wonderful people who will never be forgotten. It's so sad they are gone but I'm glad they are once again together where they can combine their love to protect & watch over you all. I love you all and Mom sends her love from above to you as well. She always asked about Lewis so hope they found each other to say hi.

As the Lord has taken Lewis home to rest, I am saddened for the family. He was truly an amazing person and friend. I was fortunate enough to grow up with him as our closest "neighbor." We looked forward to Darlene's Halloween treats, and the first ride I put on my colts was always over to Lewis' house. Lewis taught me so much about horsemanship and I loved his stories. Such an inspirational person, he will be greatly missed. I am thankful for the time he spent with me and all that he taught me.

Clark and Charlene & family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of Lewis and Darlene also. They were always so kind to me, always smiling. Such lovely people to be around at the family dinners in your home. I will keep you all in my prayers during this difficult time.

Susan and Clark: Words cannot express my sorrow in reading of Dear Louie's passing. I am SO grateful for his friendship. He once gave me a card that read "Everyday is a Gift" and HE and it certainly is... He helped me/us in achieving a goal of owning a family farm. That gesture was NEVER forgotten. What a gentle soul he was. He and Darlene are now joined together once again. I will be out of town at the time of his service but will be thinking of you all on that day. Prayers to all.

What an awesome scripture quote for Louie! "This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it." Heaven welcomes a very kind and generous man! Odessa wouldn't have had a golf course for me to learn how to play without him, and I wouldn't have known what it was like to retrieve my errant golf drives on No. 6 and then tread carefully around the horse "apples" looking for it. Let us rejoice today for Louie is home!
