Jessie ROSAUER Obituary

ROSAUER, Jessie Ann (Age 99) Our mother, grandmother, and friend Jessie Ann Rosauer passed away on November 11, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.M. "Mert" Rosauer in 1991. She is survived by two daughters and one son: Shari A. Kain, Susan M. Palmer, and Robin M. Rosauer (Sally). She was also the proud grandmother of 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Jessie was one of five children born to Henry and Anna Symbol. She grew up on Five Mile Prairie and attended North Central High School where she met her future husband. Mert and Jessie were married in 1935. Together they ultimately created the Rosauer Supermarket chain. They traveled extensively, later retiring and vacationing every winter in Maui and spent summers at Hayden Lake, Idaho. As a lifelong Spokane resident, Jessie was actively involved in her community through many philanthropic endeavors. She was president of St. Augustine's Altar Society, president of Philomathea and St. Joseph's Children's Home Auxiliary. She was co-chairman of the Champagne Ball for the Arts and was chairman of the Women's Division of United Crusade. She was a member of Morning Star Boys Ranch Auxiliary, Greater Gonzaga Guild, St. Monica's Guild and helped form Holy Family Hospital Auxiliary. Because Mert and Jessie were strong believers in education, a generous gift to Gonzaga University made possible the building of the "J. Merton and Jessie Rosauer School of Education". The family would like to thank Janette Wisdom for her loving care of our mother during the past two years. Memorials may be made to the "Rosauer Family Scholarship Fund" at Gonzaga University or to The Sisters of the Holy Names or to Hospice of Spokane. At her request, a private Funeral Mass will be held for family only. Please visit Jessie's online memorial page at www.hennesseyfuneralhomes.com to leave a message of condolence.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jessie just this year and I got to say that she was an amazingly delightful woman! Our talks about how it used to be and how things have changed were the high light of my days for the short time we spent together. My condolences to her family.

Jessie quite simply was the most real and caring lady I have ever known. Her words of wisdom and strength meant so much to me. I will always love her and miss her.

My grandfather Ben Boss was one of the first five employees of Rosauer's and worked many of the stores in Spokane as Produce Manager...last store was at U-City and I worked in the bakery his last year before retirement...I remember fondly of Mert and your mom coming over with a birthday cake to Celebrate my grandfather's retirement and the cake had minature vegetables on it...your mom and dad were special people who loved their employees.
