Edward McCoy Obituary

McCOY,
Edward William
(Age 86)

He's now singing with the angels and telling jokes with his parents. Edward McCoy died March 27, 2011 after and extensive battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Spokane on April 29, 1924 to Charles and Ruth McCoy. He attended Browne Elementary and North Central High School. Immediately after graduation Ed entered the Army Air Corps for three years. His tour included time in California, Florida, Arizona, and Texas. One of his greatest accomplishments was learning to fly, having been trained in biplanes. After an honorable discharge from the service, civilian life brought him back to Spokane. During his life he was an accomplished painter, truck driver, and the last 25 years of his career he was in pest control. Ed married Joyce McCoy on January 28, 1949. In their 62 years of marriage they were blessed with five children, 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Edward will always be remembered as a strong Christian who loved the Lord. He dedicated service to Him at St. John's Lutheran Church. His easygoing ways, a gentle and kind spirit, and corny jokes made him very approachable. Ed made many friends throughout all walks of his life. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Chuck McCoy and wife Doris. His family includes his wife Joyce McCoy; children Brian (Judy), Mark (JoAnn), Carol (Gordon), Doug (Charlotte) and Tim; 19 grandchildren and spouses, 11 great-grandchildren, his sister Shirley Warner, and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Ed's Life will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 2nd at St. John's Lutheran Church, 5810 S. Meadowlane Road, off Highway 195 South. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church.

I want to offer my condolensces to all the McCoy family. I remember our visits to your family, the biplanes and Ed's sense of humor and quick wit. We will miss him greatly, but I am comforted that he knew the Lord as his savior.

I was sad to hear Ed was not doing well and then read his obituary today. I worked with Ed for a couple years at the Pest Control company back in the early 1980's. He was a wonderful man, full of the Lord's love. His earthly passing is not easy for those close to him, but it gives us JOY to know he is in the presence of our Lord and we will see him again!! My prayers are with all of Ed's family and friends.

Having only known Ed from the early 1980's my first impression was one of admiration of this harworking gentle man who loved and cared for his family more than anything else in life. Over the years that impression never wavered. His love of life was from the lives of his family and showed easily in his constant smile and the softness in the way he talked of and to Joyce and the children. I am sure he is besssed with a special place in the heavens, reserved for such beautiful people. God Bless.........

Norma and I were deeply saddened to hear of Ed's passing. We remember him as such an easy going, pleasant person to be around. I never saw Ed angry or in a bad mood. We want to extend our sincere sympathy to Joyce and the family over the loss of this fine, Christian man. Dr. Wendell Johnson
