Frank Gaylord Obituary

GAYLORD, Frank Lincoln, Sr.
October 24, 1923-
March 9, 2011

Frank, known to all of us as Dad and Grandpa, passed away peacefully March 9, 2011 sitting in his chair with his beloved dog "Hudson" by his side at his home in Seattle, WA.
Dad was born October 24, 1923 in Spokane, WA to Charles Agustus and Myrtle Gaylord. He attended Wilson Elementary and graduated from Lewis & Clark High School in Spokane. Dad's college included WSU, Notre Dame, Harvard and graduation from Dartmouth. During WWII he was accepted into the Navy V12 program. Dad was sent to Japan and served a year on General Douglas MacArthur's staff. He also served in the Korean war.
Dad married Dorothy Alexander on July 12th, 1945 in West Hartford, CT. They were blessed with four children. Dad married ElLouise Pryor in 1970 who preceded him in death. Dad was in the life insurance business most of his working years with Equitable of Iowa and New England Life. He also spent a short time teaching English at the University of Ohio. Dad loved his children and grandchildren and always said "my kids' health and happiness are the most important thing in life". He was an avid tennis and badminton player and won many singles and also doubles championships with his lifelong friend, Jack Harvey. Dad was the 1951 Washington State Badminton Champion and played tennis on the senior circuit until he was 84. One of his favorite activities was to engage his brother, Morrie, into a real good political discussion. They were very close. He was one of the founders of the Spokane Racquet Club as well. Our dad is survived by four children: Sue Patneaude- Seattle, WA; Chuck Gaylord (Deloris)-Spokane, WA; Sally Brand (Scott)-Woodinville, WA; and Linc Gaylord (Della)-Spokane, WA. Brother Morrie Gaylord (Dee)-Las Vegas, NV. Nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many friends old and new. We love you, Dad!
Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held at Fairmount Memorial Park, Sunset Chapel, 5200 W. Wellesley on Saturday, March 26th at 11:00 am. Family and friends are gathering for refreshments and to reminisce at Harbor Crest Retirement Community, 3117 E. Chaser Lane, Saturday afternoon, 2pm to 4pm.
