John Syverson Obituary

SYVERSON, John Alfred
(Age 88)

Passed away January 23, 2011 after a lengthy illness. He was born March 6, 1922 in the family home in Orchard Avenue in the Spokane Valley to Clara L. and Alfred H. Syverson. His father was President and founder of Spokane's Syverson-Kelly Advertising Agency. John completed his entire schooling in the West Valley School District, graduating in 1940 and earned a high school tennis championship. He continued to play tennis into his 80's. John also earned his Eagle Scout Award. During high school he met his future wife, June Evelyn Schultz and they were married 66 years. They attended Washington State College together until WWII led them to new responsibilities. John served in the Army Air Corp, trained as a B-17 and B-29 pilot and co-pilot in the south. Upon returning to Spokane after the war he was a buyer and salesperson for the Crescent. In 1954 he moved his young family to Greenacres, WA to pursue a dream of farming where he built and maintained a successful egg production farm. Later in life John became a Real Estate agent for Alvin J. Wolff. For the past 20 years John and June have resided at Rockwood Forest Estates where they both have been embraced and lovingly cared for by the community. John was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sister Dorothy Godsall. He is survived by his wife who never left his side, June Syverson; son John Jay Syverson (Sandra) of Seattle; daughter Janie O'Brien (Steven) of Spokane Valley; grandsons Darby O'Brien (Autemn) and Dan O'Brien (Misty); five great-grandchildren Skyler, Kenzie, Keenan, Ian and Aidan. He was "Uncle John" to loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the Berean Bible Church family for care and prayer and the loving staff of Rockwood Atrium and health care center who embraced the entire family through these years. Memorial Service 2:00PM Monday, January 31, 2010 at Rockwood South Retirement Community, 2903 E. 25th. Ave. Memorial contributions may be made to the Clara Syverson Nursing Library Foundation at Rockwood South Retirement Community or Northwest Alzheimer's Association.

I am sorry to hear of John's passing. As a boy in Greenacres (over 50 years ago) John gave me a job on the egg ranch and I have very fond memories of working for and with John during that time. I remember him as a very caring, hard working and nice person. Please accept my sincere condolences at this difficult time.
