Harlan Howard Obituary

HOWARD,
Harlan J.

Passed away January 17, 2011 in Plaza, Washington. Harlan was born February 16, 1954 in Libby, Montana to Don and Olga Howard. After high school, Harlan worked as a police officer for Libby before moving to Spokane in 1978 and joining the Spokane County Sheriff's Dept. It was during this time that Harlan met the light of his life, Kimberly Roellich. They married in 1980. He is survived by his wife Kim; daughter Samantha; and sons Cory and Marshall; brother Danny Howard; and sister Gayle Sausedo. While Harlan loved 30+ years of service to the Sheriff's Dept. he made sure his family, friends, and co-workers were his first priority in life. In his spare time, Harlan enjoyed boating, driving combine during harvest, working on his farm and the company of his dogs, birds and newly acquired "Donks." Harlan will be missed by everyone who knew him and will be remembered for his unparalleled sense of humor, his selfless nature, and his unprecedented devotion to his family. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 22, at the Cheney Nazarene Church, 338 Betz Rd. in Cheney. Oh, and here's a little something Harlan knows that you do not...He's not left-handed. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sheriff's Chaplaincy, P.O. Box 18752, Spokane, WA 99208 in Harlan's memory. CHENEY FUNERAL CHAPEL, CHENEY, WA.

We couldn't have had a better childhood. I'll always remember the things Harlan and I did together growing up. Kim and family, I was so sorry to hear of your loss-James Skranak (St. Maries, ID)

Kim, Sam, Cory & Marshall,

We had the pleasure of working with Harlan during harvest. Even though it was only three weeks a year, we felt like Harlan and Kim were part of the family. Harvest can be kind of tense, but not when Harlan was around. We'll always miss his smile and sense of humor. It's just not the same without him.

I grew up with Harlan and he also worked in my dad's store. He worked hard but always lightened the load with a little humor. It was great to be around him.

I will keep Harlan and his family in my thoughts and prayers.

Kim & Family,
My heart and prayers are with you. I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Harlan, enough so to know that he was a wounderful and caring man. He was a SWAT brother before my time on the team, however Gary said it best.....PMR my brother. Rest in peace.

I went to high school with Harlan; but haven't seen him since that time. I am so sadden by the news of his passing; but glad to find that his life was filled with family, friends, and work that made his days on this earth fullfilling. I hope, in some small way, it helps to know that so many thought so much of him. You are all in my prayers.

Kim, I can't say anything that you have already have heard about the sorrow and loss of Harlan "Harley". I have always considered Harley as a close friend and a person that made me laugh when times were unbearable. As a SWAT team member, we shared sweat, blood, and many of tired muscles. As a SWAT team member, were became closer then brothers and there was nothing that we would do for them.
I loved Harley as a close friend and as brother and I will miss him that way.
I am so sorry Kim, that I did not talk to him more often, his humor and laugh always brightened my day.
There were always three letters that we would say when Harley and I said good bye, So here is the last time I can say to you Harley, "PMR" I love you
