Morse Garlinghouse Obituary

GARLINGHOUSE, Morse N. "Speck"
(Age 97)

Passed away April 6, 2011 in Spokane, WA. Speck was born on November 18, 1913 in Clarkston, WA. He was raised and schooled in Lewiston. In 1934 he married Dorothy Roessell in Lewiston and they made their home in Lewiston. Speck worked for Pacific Telephone Co, and they moved to Spokane in 1942. He retired in 1978 and moved to a small orchard in Greenbluff where he put in a three-hole golf course. In 1947 he built a log cabin on Priest Lake in which the family has made many memories over the years. He was an outdoors person and enjoyed golf, fishing, cross country skiing and canning his own fruit and garden produce each year. He and Dorothy enjoyed traveling for many years going to Europe, Canada and Italy. He was very close to his family and will be missed by them and his host of friends.
He is survived by daughter, Sondra Toy Martin of Scottsdale, AZ; son, Jon Jay Garlinghouse of Eugene, OR; four grandchildren, Jill, Nancy, Paul and Fiona; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, two brothers and three sisters.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2011, at 2:00 pm, at the Greenbluff Community Church UMC 9908 E. Greenbluff Rd.

There are fresh tracks in the snow.
Old friends looking for apples.
Where did he go?
He's busy, that we know.

Speck was a great guy and an inspiration to me to take better care of myself so I could live as long he did. My fondest memory is of him standing on a rock in the middle of Russian River just below the falls, with a red salmon on his fishing line, with the salmon jumping and almost pulling Speck off that rock. I'm going to miss him. Love to the Family, Sonny Morgan

Margo Morgan,

April 7, 2011

And now, with great reluctance, I say goodbye to the last of the Garlinghouse aunts and uncles. What a wonderful family I have had. I am grateful to all of my cousins and sister, Bev, for a wonderful childhood and hope, as adults, that we will continue to stay close. With love to all, Margo
