Richard Regalado Obituary

REGALADO,
Richard Daniel
(Age 54)

Passed on into the presence of the Lord on February 25, 2011 from complications due to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Rick endured the disease with dignity and bravery for 2 ½ years.
Rick was born to Daniel and Elisa Regalado in Douglas, AZ on May 5, 1956 and lived his early life in Sunnyside and Othello, WA, before moving to Spokane in 1980.
Rick graduated from Othello High School in 1974. It was there in Othello where he met his wife Nancy Struthers who he married in April of 1983. He began a 30-year railroad career in Othello starting with the Milwaukee Railroad joining the Burlington-Northern Santa Fe Railroad in Spokane until ALS forced his retirement in 2009.
Rick was a master wood craftsman and could design and build anything, often spending hours in his shop making gifts for family and friends. Mostly he loved spending time at home with his wife and two beloved daughters. He was a proud Coug Dad and devoted fan of the Mariners and Seahawks.
Rick had a fantastic wit and sense of humor and loved a great laugh. If you needed an answer to anything, Rick could be counted on. His hard work and sacrifices for his family inspired us. He was a stubborn perfectionist and it showed in his woodwork, but he balanced this with a tender compassionate heart that we will forever remember. We love our "Mijo", Dad, Sweetie, "Dirkie", brother, and Uncle Rick. He will be missed beyond words.
Rick is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughters, Jessica Bumsted (Justin) of Spokane and Sarah Regalado of Redmond, WA; parents, Daniel and Elisa Regalado of Othello; brothers, Ron (Kathryn) of Bellevue, WA, Ed (Deanne) of Minot, ND, Charlie (Linda) of Spokane, Jerry (Stephanie) of Phoenix, AZ; and a sister, Kathy Alston (Jerry) of Temecula, CA. He also leaves behind 15 nephews and nieces and four grand-nieces.
Memorial service will be held at HAZEN & JAEGER FUNERAL HOME, 1306 N. MONROE ST. in Spokane on Saturday, March 5th at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to alsso.org in honor of Rick Regalado, to benefit local families with loved ones stricken with ALS.

Nancy, Jessica, Sarah, Dan, Elisa, and family of Rick,
I just heard today of Rick's passing and my heart goes out to you. I hadn't seen Rick since high school days yet I always remember him as one of the nicest, most respectful people to walk the planet. I wish you peace during this difficult time.

Nancy, Jessica and Sarah,

Love is strong. We have experienced it in our life in times like this from God, family, and friends who really care. Grandma and I love you very much and are here for you.

March 11, 2011

To: Nancy, Jessica, Sarah, Father Dan, Mom Lisa, Ron, Eddy, Dr Charles, Kath, Jerry, spouses, nieces and nephews.

I have had Rick's picture on my piano since Feb 19th (from Jessica's Wedding)and right next to my piano the patriotic bird house he made me many years ago. Because of these reminders you have all been in my thoughts and prayers every single day. I have always treasured that gift he made me. Since his passing it has gone up in value: $PRICELESS!

"Rick you impacted my life by hearing all the stories I would hear from your Mom, Dad and your Sister during your illness. You fought a good fight and now you are reaping the reward. And I am sure by now you have been greeted by my loved ones too.
I will be visiting your parents, wife and family at the end of this month. Can't wait to embrace them.
Thank you Rick for the courage you displayed while here on earth. Look forward to that day when I can greet you in heaven.

** Nancy you are thought of more than you realize. On Monday night we dedicated a time of prayer just for you and the family. **

With deep love and care to the entire Regalado Family.

Love,
Orpha

What an amazing man. The quiet beauty of your character is honorable. The example you gave to all your family members is legendary. I am privileged to have you as my brother-in-law, and to have you become like a true brother. I cherish the memories and look forward to being together as a family again.... all our hearts will have this hole in it until then. Through the tears, God gives me a smile and warmth to my heart that you are enjoying being "Uncle Rick" right now in heaven.

My old friend Nancy & daughters...I feel sadness for your loss & was looking forward to seeing you & Rick this summer after so many years... I pray you may take comfort in what Jesus did recorded @ John 11:38-44 resurrecting his friend Lazarus displaying his power & giving us faith in what our heavenly father has promised all of us in the future (Rev 21:4). My prayers are with you & ALL your family. Take care of yourself my friend while you also take care of everyone one. I look forward to seeing you soon.

I will forever love and miss my Uncle Rick. His wit kept us laughing at family gatherings and his love for his family was so honorable. His life brought joy to so many of us. Heaven has gained a treasure. May the Lord comfort our family in times of loss and welcome my Uncle into His arms until we may all be together again.
