Charlotte Bushnell Obituary

BUSHNELL, Charlotte Anne
(Age 85)

Charlotte Anne Bushnell, 85, of Liberty Lake, Washington (formerly of the Silver Valley) passed away April 11, 2011 at Hospice of Spokane. She is now with her loving husband Wayne, in the presence of God. Charlotte was born February 9, 1926 in Milaca, Minnesota; she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary Heisler. The family moved a short time later to Fargo, North Dakota, where she grew up in a loving home with her three sisters and three brothers. Charlotte graduated and went on to college at Moorehead State University, where she majored in music. After making a few records as a trio with a few of her close friends, they decided to head West and pursue teaching careers. They made it as far as Kellogg, Idaho, where they were offered teaching jobs. In no time, they came to love this small mining community.

It was in Kellogg, where she met her life partner Wayne Bushnell, a hard working maintenance mechanic and welder at the Bunker Hill Company. They were married June 29, 1949 in Fargo, North Dakota, which was the start of a fifty-one year life together. They had four children, two girls and two boys, who they spent their lives caring and providing a warm, and loving Christian home. Charlotte took time off from her teaching career while her children were young, but returned later and completed seventeen years in the Kellogg School District; the final years as a seventh grade language arts teacher.

Charlotte continued her teaching and love for music by singing at St. Rita's Catholic Church in the choir and eventually directing the choir in her later years. Over her many years in Kellogg, she sang in many weddings, funerals and church events. Charlotte was a beautiful soloist and loved to share her music with others. Charlotte and Wayne devoted a great deal of time and effort to the Catholic Church and served in many capacities during their time in Kellogg. They were also very open with any gathering in God's name and were involved and active whenever two or more were gathered in his name and they could muster an invitation. Charlotte was a fifty year plus member and very active in the Catholic Daughters, where she held numerous local and state offices; she was also a member of the Altar Society.

Charlotte is survived by four children Becky Lockard of Monroe, Washington, Terry Bushnell and wife Cathe of Spokane, Washington, Danny Bushnell of Vancouver, Washington and Patti Paulsen and her husband Ron of Thompson Falls, Montana; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; one sister Jan Tobin of Mount Vernon, Washington; Charlotte also has a host of loving and special relatives from the Bushnell and Heisler families, she loved and cared for. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her parents Joe and Mary and her sisters and brothers, Dorinne, Ione, Tom, Ed and Joseph.

Rosary services will be held on Friday, April 15, 2011, at 5:30 P.M. at the Kellogg Funeral Chapel of Kellogg, Idaho with Father Tom Loucks officiating. And a Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Rita's Catholic Church of Kellogg with Father Tom Loucks serving as celebrant. Burial will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery of Kellogg.

The family suggest that memorials may be made to Hospice of Spokane (where she peacefully awaited her entry into the Kingdom of Heaven) 367 E. 7th Ave., Spokane, WA. 99202 or to the St. Rita's Catholic Church, 25 Kellogg Ave., Kellogg, Idaho 83837.

Char and Wayne were a gift to our family when we lived on Elder Avenue. Her voice was so rich and peaceful whether singing, laughing or speaking. Her deep friendship with my mom was a treasure she held tightly even on her last days. She, Wayne and the Bushnell gang remain in my prayers always. The light of her deep faith, loving care of all she met and joy of being are are guiding lights in the lives she touched.

When we first moved to Kellogg Aunt Charlotte gave me a little block of wood with the words "Bloom where you are planted" on it, which was also a song that she sang. Whenever I am in a new situation and a new place. I carry it with me and hear her singing the song "Bloom where you are planted" and I have great peace. Her gifts and gifts of song will continue to bless lives. Her voice was a warm oil of annointing. Thank you Aunt Charlotte.

Terry, Cathe and families. So sorry to hear of Aunt Char's passing away. Every time I think of Char and Wayne I picture Char singing and smiling and Wayne looking dangerous with his squirt gun and next plans for his victims. Our family celebrations were always full of joy and laughter because they were there and always so full of love. I find happiness in knowing Char is together with the other Heisler's and celebrating their being united with God and each other. May they watch over each of us from heaven for they loved their families. My prayers and thoughts will be with you during this difficult time.

I am so sorry for your loss Terry and Cathe. You took such good care of your mother and were so attentive to her needs. She was a lucky woman to have you as you were lucky to have her. She was blessed with such great family.

I will miss you very much Grandma, but I know that you are up there watching us in Gods Beautiful house with Grandpa and you are singing with the Angles. What a beautiful sound it must be. I am proud to be your oldest Grandaughter. I love you.
