Denise Hoban Obituary

HOBAN,
Denise P.
(Age 54)

Denise was a daughter, sister, niece, aunt, teacher, mentor, friend and instigator of all things fun who will be profoundly missed by all who loved her.
Denise P. Hoban died with family at her side on Saturday, March 26, 2011 in Gresham,OR after a nine-month battle with cancer.
Denise was born September 27, 1956 in Spokane, Washington to James and Noella Hoban. She attended Ferris High School and Spokane Falls Community College. After graduation she moved to San Diego, CA. where she enjoyed life with her cousins the Duncan family, reveling in everything San Diego had to offer (Go Chargers!) and vacationing in Baja California whenever possible.
Denise had an artist's eye and a traveler's soul. She believed in the energy of new places to spark creativity and imagination. Her craving for new experiences led to work in different cities including South Lake Tahoe where she enjoyed skiing at Kirkwood, Heavenly Valley and Alpine Meadows. A friend recalled "as a skier she didn't lack guts...someone always has to go first, scout the path". This fearless quality described her life as well.
In 2002 she moved to Albuquerque, NM., and fell in love with the wonderful culture and generous artistic community. She invited many family and friends to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and enjoyed visiting places like Chaco Canyon and Mesa Verde National Park.
Her job at a jewelry manufacturer helped build upon the foundation of jewelry design learned from her mother and inspired her to pursue jewelry-making full-time. In 2008 Denise moved to Camas, WA to be closer to family and fulfill her dream of starting her own jewelry design business.
Denise had a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh we will remember forever.
Preceded in death by her father James Hoban in 2007, Denise is survived by her mother Noella Hoban, siblings Terry Sturgill, James Hoban, Mary Price, Margaret Hoban, Michelle Bowers, Cynthia McLain (Bill), and Joseph Hoban, nephew Stephen, nieces Brianna, Michaela, Emily and Hailey, loving aunts, uncles, cousins as well as devoted friends Dianna Ventura, Sherry Bowers and Gail St. James. The family is deeply grateful for all the prayers, prayer circles, cards and phone calls from friends and family during her illness. A private celebration of Denise's life will be held June 11th on Lake Coeur d' Alene, ID. Donations may be made to Hospice of Spokane or the Spokane Humane Society.

I also went to high school with Denise and remember times with her very fondly. Denise had this gorgeous head of long, long, long hair that flowed down her back - the envy of all her female classmates, I am sure. Her family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers. With sympathy, Joy Wagner

I have thought of you often over the years after you moved to California. It saddens me we lost touch. You are now free of pain and may you rest in peace.
