MINZEL, Edwin "Ned"

Passed away at home Saturday March 5th, 2011.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Claudia Minzel, his children, Lori (Ken) Schmidt, Darcie (Eric) Schmidt, Blaine Allen, Amedee (Ron) Vally, and Derek (Janice) Minzel, 13 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by is parents Irvin and Martha Lee Minzel, and brother Marshall Minzel.
Ned was born in Colville, Washington November 7th, 1943. He moved to Spokane with his family and attended Hutton Elementary and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1962. Ned quickly moved into his career as a mechanic and over the following years evolved into a highly respected diesel mechanic. In 1981 Ned and his wife purchased Spokane Kawasaki and owned and operated it for the next 12 years. Motocross racers and fans were their second family. In semi-retirement he worked for Playfair Racetrack, Kiemle & Hagood, and Republic Parking NW.
Ned enjoyed many activities both with family and friends. A Cougar/Husky retreat was the highlight of many summers. He loved to ATV, camp, fish, RV, snowmobile, and spend time at the family cabin on Hayden Lake. He had an extensive RC collection and loved the gun shows. Involved in so many hobbies, Ned made many dear friends. He was the life of any get together, his stories were famous, and practical jokes were his forte. All who knew him will miss his wit, candor, and humor.
THUMBS UP DAD!

My deepest sympathy to the Minzel Family:
Ned and I attended Hutton together, spent many memorable times throughout high school, and enjoyed r/c flying together.

We will miss him greatly.

To the Minzel Family:
My mind is mesmerized by the glowing embers as the Tamarack whispers its noise of familiarity. The crackling of wood with popping sparks fluttering up through the dancing flames; a reflection that carries me along with a sense of well-being and warmth. In this trance of twisting flames, unassuming as they are, captivate me, keep me company, then fade into passing thoughts. Like fanning a fire, the flickering thoughts soon become a distant memory only to be rekindled yet another day, then slowly fade again. I will miss my friend Ned, his flame extinguished but his spark will live on forever. Our thoughts are with the Minzel Family in this time of loss.

Amedee and Family; we are so sorry for your loss. Ned was a great guy; I always remember him being so quiet around the house but pleasant. Amedee I rememeber in 6th grade hanging out at your house; we were always singing and acting goofy. Well you ran to the kitchen for something and I was singing at the top of my lungs thinking that it was you and I in the house alone; sure enough I turn around and theres your dad. I was so embarased and hid around the corner; he teased me forever about my singing. Again we are sorry for your loss and my mother sends her respects to you and your family. We love you!

Claudia and family. What can I say that hasn't been said by many, many people. Ned was a funny, memorable, thoroughly outrageous individual. He was my fearless leader in the Husky/Cougar debate. I followed where ever he led and we usually ended up in trouble. Love him to death. Sincerest sympathies to all of you.

Claudia and family, Our deepest sympathy to you in your loss of a marvelous man. We will always remember our fun times on Huckleberry Bay and the laughs Ned provided. Especially Ned shooting canons at the Rebel Flag; plus our Winter Knights association. We are sorry that we can't be there on Saturday, we are in AZ. May your beautiful memories bring comfort to each of you. God Bless. Chuck and Anna Mae Luther.
